It's not just the forum that is boring.

My local brick & mortar coin shop has gotten even more boring. Unless you are looking for common Morgans or common gold they have nothing to offer. It wonder if their long standing reputation of never paying much is adversely affecting their business in this age of the internet.
It a good thing they have a jewelry department. That appears to be where most of their action is these days. Question: Why would anyone pay retail for jewelry?

This might be the reason why they don't have anything better, because all their money is tied in this bullion type coinage.
But, then again I don't own a coin shop and don't know how much extra dough they have lying around.
<< <i>Let's face it. On the surface, coins are boring. There are times when I look at my collection and ask myself, "Are you nuts?". I answer in the affirmative and just keep on trucking. >>
I am so glad I am not the only one who do that!!

So boring, I had her count the dentils on my Morgans.
She didn't get past the obverse on the first one. I begged her to stay.
Her choice was to slam the door and never return.
I've not been happier since

I don't think one needs to find a new hobby. We are all consumers
in this game of numismatics and if you regularly attend your local B&M
and the inventory changes very little, stop going. I did that.
It's about time for me to make another trip back out there since it's now
been 2-3 months. If things still haven't changed I'll move on.
Sidebar: A lot of the stuff in the cases doesn't change very often, but I've
found that if you are looking for something specific and ask, they usually have
quite a bit more inventory that you've never seen.

it comes to old gold. some were better then others but basically i have stopped
going. i have no interest in spending time looking at mostly common stuff and
when i do wish to view a few things i get the sense the owners/operators do
not care to show me the handful of coins so i can inspect them closely.
but hey, most coin stores went out of business and i am not surprised!
My local dealer saves the low grade large cents, type coins, etc. for guys that sell them on ebay. They stop in once a week and take everything he has. I no longer get a chance to go through them because they are already set aside. i cant say as i blame him because it makes it easier on him and everything is out the door almost before it comes in. Better coins are sent to third party graders and then auctioned off. It is usually only run-of-the-mill stuff like moderns and circ lincoln cents, etc. That are readily available anymore. Bob

I’m honestly not sure if I can agree with everyone who has said coins are boring.
When ever I show my coins to friends or family and they start thumbing through old Morgans, Barbers, Seated and Standing stuff… their reaction is always “Wow! How much is this worth!?”
No one has ever yawned when they’re looking at coins, even those that might say “eh, I’m not into collecting” when I show them a few old type coins, they always look at all of them and say "Oooo!"
Of course they could just be humoring me!
Should I charge him melt price or cost ?
I'm not bored with the Martha Washington proof, but I'm just wondering if he might trade it off for the 2008 with '07 reverse ASE once he starts studying coins a little more
