should I open mint and proof sets?

  With most dates it raises the value.
  
  You can buy singles for those sets which it has a negative effect. Display them however you want.

  I never understood the idea of collecting anything (coins, trains, baseball cards, etc.) in boxes in which you cannot see the contents. It takes the fun out of it for me.

  by the time these sets will be worth anything,we will be long gone anyway. do you think the guy who bought the 1936 proof set(in 1936) is enjoying it now?

  The 1982 type 2 proof set is opened to extract one
  or more type 2 coins. If all coins of the set are type 2;
  do not open. The type 1 set sells for less than 10 bucks.
  The type 2 set in slab with box and COA; 300/400 bucks.

  thanks for your time,i think i will open them.i like the way they look in books anyway.doesn't sound like they will loose much value.
