I was at a family reunion once at a pumpkin farm that had a wishing well

The kids were trying to get the coins out using sticks with bubble gum on the end

Funny as hell after about 6 beers

That can be true of many, many things!

At the Vatican, there is a guy whose job it is to sweep all of the coins out of the various fountains every day. Many years ago, this person was widely rumored to have been an illegitimate son of one of the Popes.

While in Rome on our honeymoon in 1986, I threw a Fair-2 (but with readable date) 1798 large cent in the Trevi fountain.

    Not really,

When I was a kid I used to ask for all of my parents change so I could throw it in. Not sure any wish ever came true. Can't remember what I wished for.

Why? Sounds like the type of coin a collector would want. I can't see throwing away a collectible coin. image

I don't know about the guy that pitched the large cent, but I get a kick out of leaving interesting (although generally not very valuable) coins in places that other people can find. I like to think that someone will pick it up and wonder, "what the heck is this? Why is it here? Where did it come from? Is it valuable?" Maybe in the act of answering the questions a numismatist will be born... image

You sound like the kind of a person who could look at a sunset and ask "Why?"
