turning proof sets in cameos---just an idea

anyone ever thought of "per se" buying a proof set...then buying those proof sets that have one cam in them...swapping out the cam and selling that set off.

then when another needed donimation single cam in that set pops up...doing the same untill you have a full set of cameos muchless for shipping fees?

anyone here actively doing that as a thought?

There are capital holders sets like that on E-Bay all the time. I'm sure they didn't all come from one set!

I do it with 66 & 67 SMS sets all the time, take out the coin I want, replace it and wholesale the set.

As for flat pack sets, I take the extras and put them in rolls then sell the rolls on E-Bay.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I do the same thing. As a result of cherrypicking proof and SMS sets for cameos, I have accumulated multiple cameo and brilliant proof and SMS coins, some of which I have sold and some of which I still have. IMO assembling (from cherrypicking) and owning a year set of matching cameo proof coins or SMS coins is a real treat. With enough time and effort very attractive sets can be assembled for the years 1956-1970 for modest money. The years 1950-1955 are much more expensive.

And then, a bottom-feeder such as myself comes along and trys to buy the rolls for as close as melt as possible. Hey, we each play our own games.image

I have done it. I have a very nice 1971 CAM proof set that was put together that way. '71 was a tough year for the Mint. They kinda sucked.
