  Well ... it hasn't been cleaned.
  
  It was actually a nice coin before that darn hobo got his hands on in it!

  put a scope to the top of the 4 to make sure you don't have a 1914/3 might be a high class hobo

  Looks like a peen job with a hammer and rough chisel.

  The first thing I thought of was a WWII issued Army helmet, which if that is the case then the piece was likely worked on well after traditional Hobo Nickels were made.
