Anybody get an "extra cactus" Arizona quarter yet?

I read about this in coin world, apparently there are some Arizona P quarters with die breaks. It looks like an extra cactus leaf covering up the designer's initials and on more extreme examples there is a cud partially covering the 2008 date. Has anybody here found one yet and what do you think about this error?

  • Got mine last week from the same coin shop that was mentioned in Coin World ---- for Free. Cool Coin to have. Sure it will never be as big as the Wisconsin's but cool non the less.

I saw one that had a catus leaf down over the designer's initial and then one more over the date. Tony Tumonis showed it to me. He was on the design comittee and asked one of the workers about the dies breaking. They said that because of the busy design the dies failed much faster than previous dies. Something like 30,000 per die rather than 200,000. He predicted die breaks would be numerous and now we see the result.

I found 8 coins in a roll of P's this morning having the designers initials covered up, but the leaves above the date are not as obvious.
I will try to post some images later. Have another roll to search too.

Do they both look to have the extra cactus at the base over the initials?

oddities like this come out all the time if you look for them and will not be worth a premium in my opinion.

i found a bunch of these in some rolls a couple years ago.

  • Ah crud, I just searched a 1000 quarters from the mint and found some of the ones where the date is covered, but I wasn't looking for the no initials. So now I have to re-search the lot.
I did hear the date covered version was coming only from the mint sewn 1000 coin bags. Thoughts?
