Remember there are Young Numismatists on these boards, keep your content clean!!

I felt a need to bring this up.
There are young numismatists who read these boards for the great content. I do not think that the personal attacks or extremely foul language that are becoming more common are called for and they certainly are not acceptable.
You all should remember that the young numismatists see these conflicts and it could seriously harm their opinion of the boards.
So, if not for your fellow collector, please, PLEASE keep the young numismatists in mind when you post. These aren't "over 18" boards and it would be a terrible shame if parents had to start restricting their kids from these boards due to horrible content.
99% of the members here post with respect for everyone.

Yes, I've heard some of the language from bad boys in my son's second grade class. You have to teach kids that some people talk like that. You hear it on the golf course, at the mall, and even on TV. Trying to shield kids from reality is a lose lose proposition. Teach them right from wrong. --Jerry

The funny thing is that some guys don't want to get paired with me and my 7 yr old son, not because they don't want to play with a kid, not because it is likely that they'll beat him (his last round was 91), but because they don't want to watch their language. I guess I understand that. --Jerry

I certainly would not mind shooting a round with both of you and both my wife and I can watch my language!
Say, that 91 was for 9 holes right?

I8 holes but he plays from the women's tees. Here's the course. If you're ever down we'd enjoy playing.
Ok. I reviewed the language in question in the 4000+ thread and we had a low post newbie (Troll?) come in and start typing a bunch of astericks. The net-nanny software makes sure he doesn't type the real words in but you can tell what he's saying. Bottom line is, he looks like a fool and certainly wouldn't be someone a YN would want to emulate. --Jerry

Lyrics for Song: Watching You
Lyrics for Album: If You're Going Through Hell
Drivin’ through town just my boy and me
With a Happy Meal in his booster seat
Knowin’ that he couldn’t have the toy ‘til his nuggets were gone.
A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath.
His fries went a flyin’, and his orange drink covered his lap
Well, then my four year old said a four letter word
It started with “S” and I was concerned
So I said, “Son, now where’d you learn to talk like that?”
Chorus:
He said, "I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that cool?
I’m your buckaroo, I wanna be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah, we’re just alike, hey, ain’t we dad?
I want to do everything you do.
So I’ve been watching you."
We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
Said, “Lord, please help me help my stupid self.”
Just this side of bedtime later that night
Turnin’ on my son’s Scooby-Doo nightlight.
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees.
He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
Spoke to God like he was talkin’ to a friend.
And I said, “Son, now where’d you learn to pray like that?”
Chorus:
He said, "I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that cool?
I’m your buckaroo; I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We like fixin’ things and holding moma’s hand
Yeah, we’re just alike, hey, ain’t we dad?
I want to do everything you do; so I’ve been watching you"
With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug.
Said, “My little man is growin’ up.”
And he said, “But when I’m big I’ll still know what to do.”
"‘Cause I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that cool?
I’m your buckaroo; I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
By then I’ll be strong as superman
We’ll be just alike, hey, won’t we dad
When I can do everything you do.
‘cause I’ve been watchin’ you."
hey yeah
uh huh

Everyone already knows this, including them.

<< <i>Arguments, particularly on boards like this are inevitable and could be considered a necessary part of discussion. I've done what I could to make a postive contribution here. I've even received several PM's from members who show their support of what I'm trying to do. Again, this has very little to do with any of the topics of discussion. It's about bruised egos. Well I'm sorry, but I'm not going to just sit around and let the bullies take over. Especially ones who just bring everyone down by reminding everyone about how the coins we've all bought aren't going to amount to anything, just because those individual happen to have more posts than I do or because they've been collecting longer than I have. It's just plain ridiculous!

Good Lord, what's it going to take? I've never ever inferred that I've seen it all. I keep on stating that I don't know much and that I'm trying to learn. I keep on saying that all I did was make phone calls and write emails. I never have had an attitude of arrogance. I'm ALWAYS hoping to learn from others here, and yet, some of the members still think I'm trying to be arrogant and show boat!
What exactly do you want anyway? You'd prefer that none of us do anything except for you? And we all just wallow in self pity in knowing that our coin values are all going down the toilet? Good God, all I'm trying to do is to ask questions, learn, and then share. Any one of us can do it. There's so much knowledge here, and yet, if I even try to share something I like learned, I'm suddenly labeled as a "know it all"?
This is so freakin' typical. I have to deal with this type of attitude with people in the real world all the time already, and now, I can experience it online too. What is it going to take to please you? Self deprecation doesn't seem to work at all. I guess the best answer for you is if I just shut up. Even if I have something good to share with the group. Sorry, not gonna do it...the people have the right to know.

This board, on the whole is very tame and any teen who is shocked by what's here shouldn;t be on the internet because dirty words are the tamest of demons that they will come across.

I really hate to get into this with you Tony but if you were really and I mean really wanting to learn, you would actually read what is presented to you and try to comprehend it instead reading your own opinion's into it. Never once did I say this coin would "crash" yet you continue to say that I said that? This tells me you are not reading what I have said but are reading into it what you think I said.
Now read what you yourself just stated: - "This is so freakin' typical. I have to deal with this type of attitude with people in the real world all the time already"
This is not the first time you have said this so it should tell you something about how people view you and not how you view yourself. How you view yourself has very little to do with how people view you. People respond to what they see.
Lastly, "Sigh...the truth is that in real life, I'm actually very polite and very respectful". These forums ARE real life friend and the behavior you exhibited simply does not reflect "I'm actually very polite and very respectful" because we see "very polite and very respectful" everyday. A polite and respectful person would read and then ask questions instead of dissing the posters.
It appeared that you were ok with everything right up until someone said something that you, personally, did not agree with. Then that person became a "an idiot, pure and simple" followed with "Seriously, you really don't belong here. All you bring is negativity and pessimism. Please go elsewhere to spreadh your "warmth"."
To me, that doesn't sound very polite and respectful.
Now, a polite and respectful person will read what I've just typed and realize that I am not attacking him, only making observations of what I've seen from him.
The name is LEE!
Say, that 91 was for 9 holes right?
I was thinking the EXACT same thing!!!LOL After all this back surgery, just hope I can keep it under 100!!
Keeping it in perspective though, we're not at Sunday school here and I think off color remarks or some adult humor is just fine as long as it doesn't cross that line of being what most, (and most is the key word) would consider offensive.
I say "most" because everyone has a different take on what constitutes being inappropriate, and there will always be someone that will object to almost anything.
Some might think the Simpson's are offensive, while other would not even consider Family Guy offensive because they interpret the twisted humor
in a completely different way than someone else might.
As a parent of a 16 year old and 23 year old, I believe there isn't really anything youngins' could find on here that wouldn't be ten times worse on myspace or you tube or any of 1000 other sites....

Just because the kids at the convenience store are that low-class, that doesn't mean we should continue it here. I agree with the OP - keep it clean.
And minors ARE MOST CERTAINLY WELCOME HERE. They are the future of the hobby. Or would you rather coin-collecting become like a church filled with nothing but old people (when they die, it dies)?

but of the respect that each board member
would show towards their fellow members
the language thing is secondary
as we have all know the "bad words"
and they do not frighten me or most of us.
There is a cuss word filter and fairly tight moderation of this forum, so I do not see much getting through that would be considered horribly offensive.
