Do you prefer large silver coins over small gold coins?
Would you prefer to collect large silver dollar size coins over small gold coins?
It seems because they are easier to see the larger the coin the more collectable.
This has led many to collect silver dollar size coins or "crowns" as a preference over smaller gold coins for the same money.
Has this preference led to a under valuation of say one dollar or 2 1/2 dollar gold pieces?
I think small gold trumps large silver for the same money.
What say you?

Oh, I guess that wasn't the question. I think smaller gold is more interesting than larger silver, but it depends a lot on the design.
Hey - why is it I can buy large gold for just a bit over melt but those tiny quarter eagles and $1 gold coins go for multiples of melt even in low condition?
Easier to see and easier to afford!!!!!

I prefer medium silver to small gold. It, to me, is much more attractive.

Does anyone sense a trend here?
I must have both, as the history of US coinage is also intricately tied to our dual metal standard, gold and silver.
Copper can also look nice too, don't forget that!
If anything I think that half eagles are undervalued compared with gold dollars and quarter eagles.
Don't forget the allure of all that has 'CC' on it! Silver and gold. I think that some of the 'CC' gold double eagles are a bargain compared with some of the 'CC' morgans. But alas, I have 'CC' silver but no gold.
What do I really think? This is a question that comes down to personal preference and you will get a bunch of different answers, all of them correct.

Carl you know the answer to this one. I hope you are just joking.
The smaller coins were circulated by the people and the large stuff was used for banking purposes so they were not worn or lost. There are so many above MS that they can only be worth melt + a small premium.

I prefer the small gold, especially the $2 1/2 pieces, although they have a tiny following compared to big silver. I can find so many affordable issues with mintages less than 10,000 - even in mint state.
