Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set: 1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S. Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
No link...just my word as a gentleman. I am looking at the June 13 weekly and I promise that it is listed under Modern American Eagles on page 3B. Bid/$520...Ask/$565. Will someone confirm this please.
for those of us to whom the Greysheet is nothing but a cheezy little dealer cheat sheet, tell us why a coin becoming listed in this publication is such a big deal.
what are the benchmarks for a coin getting listed in this publication in the first place?
"for those of us to whom the Greysheet is nothing but a cheezy little dealer cheat sheet, tell us why a coin becoming listed in this publication is such a big deal."
Some folks seem to think that because this fellow showed up in the greysheet that its now going to shoot to the moon in the pricing arena.
I guess they aren't aware that the greysheet simply provides dealer bid/buy pricing and it really isn't a marketing tool.
IMO, these folks are simply enjoying their first experience with one of these coin frenzies and they are translating the instant price rise as a long term "highly prized collectible" which can only go higher. There is no reasoning with them as they just "know" this to be true and no amount of experience in the business will convince them otherwise.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Is there anything the Nattering Nabobs of Negativism will not attack in their negative pursuits.
Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.
"Nattering Nabobs of Negativism" I like that. However:
<< <i>negativism Noun a tendency to be unconstructively critical -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- negativism 1. an attitude characterized by an unwillingness to follow suggestions or orders, as in children. 2. a pessimistic approach to life. >>
There is a big difference between negativism and reality.

I really don't know that much about the Greysheet and its history as I am still rather new to this hobby. I just know I'm tired of my only dealer within hundreds of miles who always "whips it out" everytime I ask about the price of a coin in his shop.

Some dealers are just that, dealers. The buy bulk and know little with regard to pricing on individual pieces.
And yes, I find it a little distasteful as well but the point is, the greysheet is a pricing tool (that can be on the high side) and not a marketing tool.

We all have our opinions as to what something is worth but without a guide we may be wasting time finding what someone else will pay. Of course if you have a pure auction going you will get your answer but may not like what it tells you.

Being negative is not necessarily a bad thing but some seem to make a sport of it IMO.

I think the effect of the greysheet inclusion boils down to awareness-not what price they assign. Since dealers mainly pay for this publication then it is of little affect in itself but the greysheet inclusion means that other publications that go to the general public will be more likely to include it and increase awareness to the general collecting public. Awareness in theory can correlate with demand and demand correlates with price so there you go.

Careful Wayne, you get tagged a Negativismist if such a tag exists. >>
Actually, there is a positive spin. Having them listed in the greysheet is good for this variety. This will keep them from falling all the way to the price of the reverse of '08. This should help them settle somewhere around half where they are now. Without this recognition, they would be just like thousands of other obscure varieties about which no one cares after the initial excitement wanes.

Getting a little carried away?

It has little to do with mintages and survival rates. Don't you know what the greysheet is?

No, but thread with way over 4,000 posts, now that is getting a little carried away.
Duh, it's an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of grey paper, who doesn't know that?
