Is ending an auction on July 4th a bad idea?

I know that with some holidays people are around the house more than others. What are your past experiences with selling on the fourth?

most people are out and about on the 4th, not a good idea, end it on the 5th or 6th instead.

That is one way to go out with a "bang" but probably not good strategy.

What difference does it make when an auction is ended? Non-snipers are going to bid whenever they see the lot...Snipers will set their automatic bids to be executed whether they are at their computer or not.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Not true. I am a sniper but have never used a program to do it for me. I suspect many others are the same way.

given current gas prices, people will not be "out and about" on the 4th like they used to be.

It's part of the cutting back and rescheduling of travel Americans are beginning to realize they desperately should be doing.

I do my own sniping... and if I want something, I will be there to snipe it at the end. I beat all programs. Cheers, RickO

I stand corrected...opinion was based on what seems to be 1000000+ threads on best sniping program.

Ending it on the fourth could blow up on you. Go for Sunday the 6th in the evening, Friday holiday will reduce number of potential buyers.

I would have to say yes. Just like ending an auction on Christmas or New Year's eve or any other "big event" type day. Not too may will be paying attention.

Might not get the most you could but if you set the minimum you are happy with getting with a reserve/start price then it wont matter.

If I see something I really want, I'll use a sniping program.

Also, my friends are far from rich, but none are staying home due to gas prices.

Normally the 4th of July isn't even a consideration, but this year it creates a three day weekend. If you're selling a hot item with a large collector base, it doesn't matter at all. If you're selling common widgets or esoteric stuff with a narrow collector base, it could have an impact.

    << <i>4th of July ? >>

I'm thinking "Summer of '08 " would be a bad time to end anything on eBay.

The whole gas thing , if you know what I mean. image

I'll be out with my camera trying to do the long shutter thing with the fireworks. image
  • I think its a GREAT idea...because I will be fully laid up for about 2 months, so I got nothing better to do than to find some of the many rips that will be had that day. In other words, it's NOT a very good idea...people have been know to take a beating so bad, as in the words of Cousin Eddie in the 'Vacation' movies....'I havent seen such a beating since someone tossed a banana down my pants and let the monkey loose'.

NOT a good idea to end items on any holiday.
