As with all early Carson City coinage, 1872-CC circulated extensively during the early days after being coined. Because of that, finding original F-VF pieces is quite a difficult task. There are a few nice and original circulated pieces out there, but they are currently very popular and hard to find. Expect to search at least a year to find any piece that will suit your criteria for F-VF and original.

If you're asking because you have a chance to buy one, better make the buy while you can.

Of the key date early CC dimes, the '72-CC is the most commonly seen but still quite scarce, and nice and original examples in the F-VF range are quite elusive.

And if you do find a nice original one in mid-grade circulated condition, and you have a chance to get it anywhere near sheet, jump on it.

The 72-cc dime and quarter sort of follow on the coat tails of the rarer CC dates. Any of the CC dates is tough to find problem free.
It seems that almost none of the 74-cc dimes comes problem free.
And if they do, they're locked up in sets for decades.

While for years I felt the 72-cc dime and quarter were overrated and overpriced, that was because I was only counting total appearances including problem and cleaned coins. No doubt a nice original is very hard to find and bucks the trend. The 70-s and 85-s in circ are probably as tough...yet considerably less in price because of the allure of the CC mint. But finding those problem free is not as hard.
