(: A thought for my next "Type Set"... Indian Theme? - suggestions and help needed :)

Hello all... so I have been surching for another "Type Set" to collection along the lines of my Buffalo Type Set (seen here).
I really enjoyed finishing that set and have been looking ever since on another to build.
well today I think i have it figured out... I thought it would be a great companion to this set to create a type set with all INDIAN REPRESENTATIONS.
So I could use some help in creating a list of necessary coins.
Depending on the complexity I would either like to do the following:
1) Collect every "type" within a series... ie if there are P,D,S,etc I would need 1 of each & also any design variations (mottos, no mottos, etc)
2) Collect 1 "type" within a series... ie denomination based and major design changes.
basicly... need some help!!
thanks very much in advance!
can't wait to see this one in a NGC MULTIHOLDER!!!

<< <i>Well, if you go with an Indian theme, you'll need to add a nice $5.00 large note too! >>
funny you should say... yes... I was thinking the same thing and need to add the Bison note to the Buff collection... that would be VERY cool indeed.

Does this mean you'd be willing to sell them?
Seriously though, an Indian type set sounds really cool. What grade range would you want to shoot for?
<< <i>But..but..what about your colonials?

oh, colonials are still in the mix...
I just love completing mini sets along the way... kinda fills in the time between the colonial purchases as they tend to be a little draining on the wallet!
Grade wise... hummm... that's a good question... I guess because of the high price of the gold pieces I might need to stay on the lower side... maybe MS63 or AU58?

<< <i>The MA half-cent and cent would be good items to include in any such set. >>
that's a great idea tom... did not even think to go back THAT far
so are there any other colonials that would be needed... a quick flip through the red book and it seems like the answer might be yes.

I do love the themes. Both are very American. You would get lots of attention at coin shows with such a super display. I'm so glad I clicked your link and was able to see your buffalo set. I love the Internet! This would not have been possible when I first started collecting coins! Go for it! Get the Indians!
Considering some of the Indians are expensive gold coins I, now this is a very personal decision, would get high grade coins and not bother getting examples from the various mints. So my set would include a MS 63 Indian Eagle but if I wasn't me and I felt inclined to get the branch mints I would then be very, very happy with AU coins. The incuse gold designs can look so very good in AU...
Have fun!
This indeed would go superbly with the Buffalo set!

<< <i>As far as circulating coins, there are only four types with Indians---$2 1/2 & $5 Indian gold, the buffalo nickel, and the Sacagewea dollar. The Indian cent, $3 gold, etc have caucasian females wearing feathered headdresses which don't make them Indians. >>
quite an interesting point...
though... the Indian "Theme" could still apply.

TomB made a great suggestion to include Massachusetts half cents and cents in your Indian themed type set. But I'm not sure what other colonial era coins would be appropriate or obtainable in high grades.
You could try to obtain the apparently unique 1776 Massachusetts Indian Copper. Or an example of the Indian and New York Arms or Indian and Eagle on Globe coppers...or even one of the 3 known Indian and George III coppers.
Still, this is a great idea for a focused collection that ties in nicely with your Buffalo Type Set. As for grade, I would shoot for AU58 instead of MS63. I think overall AU58 is a nicer, more eye-appealing coin than most 63s.

Yes. You can always include Indian wannabes.
