Seems like ebay cares a lot more for sellers than buyers

AnkurJAnkurJ Posts: 11,370 ✭✭✭✭
Kinda OT, but I bought a watch from a seller on ebay with 100% feedback. It was a designer watch with all papers and box. I went to get the battery changed, and it turns out to be a fake! I report this to paypal and file a dispute, and also file a dispute for fraudulent merchandise with ebay. THEY DID ABSOLUETELY NOTHING! I am out over $200 and have a fake watch to show for it. Ebay did not give any penalty to the seller, and paypal didnt give me back a cent. I guess its time to do a charge back with the bank.

I am really considering to stop bidding on ebay all together. There is some nice stuff, but a lot more crap comparatively. What does everyone here think?

Sorry for your situation. Personally, I think they're more on the side of buyers. But I do agree, eBay isn't a fun place anymore for either side.

    Change the battery?

"How long have you had this watch" is what I'm thinking?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I'd say no time limit when fakes are involved.
  • If you listen to my Power Seller rep and Live help they are more on the side of the buyer. Sellers are being punished for not making any mistakes. The DSR is a prime example. Ebay tells buyers that leaving 4 Stars is good. Ebay tells sellers getting 4 stars is not so good.

So you have had this watch long enough for the battery to go dead, have been happy with it this long and now you want a return?

The way I see it, at least I got something I like, some people buy something, and get crap delivered to them, and they are screwed out of the money, at least you got something you like.

I have a folex watch (A fake rolex that I picked up in Iraq on my first tour over here), when I was at home I went in to a department store and was trying on another watch when the lady said with concern in her voice, "Don't forget that, you might want to put that in your pocket while your trying on the watched".

I knew it was fake but it fooled her, thus far, your fake watch fooled you and you were happy with it.

I know its's the principle, but the way I go throughlife is, if you can not change something, learn to accept it and move on. Life is to short to hold onto the frustration.

I love the way we all jump to conclusions.

As he stated the battery was dead on arrival. He did not state if it was new or used, if used could be dead battery etc...

    Gotta love this place. image

Edited: oh, I also have dropped my e-bay store and bid only when I need to. i.e. I just bought a used copy stand, not too much can go wrong there.

How much would this "designer" watch have cost if purchased at retail from a reputable source?

If you think you're buying a "Rolex" for $200....

I wouldn't buy designer anything off ebay with hopes that it was real.

That piece of information would have been helpful in your initial post in which case I would have said follow up on your PayPal dispute as they usually follow through for the buyer but it does take a week or so. eBay is the same thing, it takes a week or so for the buyer to respond to the dispute.

That sucks. Will the credit card company back you on this type of chargeback ( ? ) even after it's been declined by paypal/ebay?

Just the pain in the butt to go thru this. The time........

This sure doesn't sound like the PayPal we all know an love. How about a link to this auction?

I would need to see the auction. Are you sure you didn't miss any fine print?

If not, you should certainly get your money back, however, when something seems too good to be true, ...

Neither would I, and I've sold several genuine Rolex's.

ebay has been courting buyers because they feel they have the sellers captive. More buyers is good for ebay and good for sellers. But it may be time for things to change the other way around. Large compaines like this tend to flip flop (remember my post about harmonic motion? In this case there may not be much damping). --Jerry
