I think they got it right.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

There's some rub in the fields but very nice, worth MS money I would think.

Reverse looks like it was lightly wiped, but probably from handling or circulation.

That is a very attractive coin.
The designs look top AU, but the fields look a little shy of 58.....maybe.
I would like to own this coin.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

So would I...it's a shame the seller is in Hong Kong ...even if they are legit, I would never take the chance...
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

I wonder about the field area just left of the date. Otherwise, it looks like a typical PCGS 58. I also would not consider buying any coins from China.

This is going to go for big bucks unless the Hong Kong thing turns people away from biddding.

Okay, this is one case where the obverse is way better than the reverse. Look at the reverse fields below the motto - preatty hairliney and looks somewhat scrubbed or harshly cleaned?

    Obverse - au58
    Reverse - ?? AU details ?

    I voted a "tad" overgraded.
I'd like it better at AU55.
Looks better than a NGC coin I just got, howeverimage

Just my 2c ..... I wish people would not post auctions that are legit and ongoing. I was planning on bidding on this coin. Now there are more people that are aware of it. Not all coins from Hong Kong are bogus. I have bought from overseas in the past with good results. If the coin was a fake or a picture of a different coin, like clipped from a major coin value guide or another seller that is different. Just needed to state this as it is not the 1st time this happens. Just put yourself in my shoes what if you were watching an auction and some other member made it the topic of discussion on this board while it was still ongoing?

That does suck, but it's a public venue (eBay) posted on a public forum. Just bad luck.

I wish they would wait until the auction ends as many others do....I'll get over it....

I thought it might be AU55, looks like rub on the high points. Of course I don't know this series and rarely try to guess grades on these.

I was watching this one too, despite the Hong Kong locale. Anyway, I am assuming the reverse looks better in hand than in the image as it does appear scrubbed.

This one carries more risk than most but less than some!

This is why, except to expose frauds, I generally don't link to anything until after the sale is completed.

Gosh, sorry I posted this, had no idea anyone on here would consider bidding on a cleaned coin from a Hong Kong seller.

Have to agree. I would call it an AU55 and nothing more. Dipped out, hairlined ...

ha. i am shocked by the poll answers.
i think the pics were very biased not showing off the hairlines that you can spot
in a few pictures. the whole coin just looks wrong to me.

Here's the kicker. Seller on the bay over 6 years with 100% pos fb. Mostly chinese coins but a few US in the mix. Gives a modicum of credibility. Then again, seller might be tempted to pass off bogus slabs. anyone check the number?

I would not buy this coin because it is too white, but its cheap so one of you guys should snag it. These have been selling for near 2K recently. Besides, the neat cracks are clear on untoned coins.image

Looks about right if you take what PCGS puts in AU 58 slabs as the standard.

However, to me, it is neither AU 58 nor attractive. PASS.

Of course not everyone in Hong Kong is running a scam, the number checks out, the coins looks awesome and will go for big bucks.

There is some wear at the high points but, it doesn’t 'HAVE' to have been dipped, it could have been tossed in the middle of an old bag of silver coins and not exposed to the elements. The same reason so many of the Carson City Morgan GSA hoard are so gleaming, those weren’t dipped just not exposed to the elements.

... and if you hate the gleeming white halves, you could always leave it sitting on your window ledge for a month or two, that should golden it up a bit! image

BWT: Does anyone know if that die crack, running along the word “United” is common for that year?

I know that coin for sure. Can't remember where I've seen it though. Could be here, could be at a dealer site, just can't remember. I know I've seen it before though.

SirAnthony, the O-104 (this one) is probably the most common die marriage for the year. The die crack through United appears fairly early in the life of that particular die.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
