OT: Ken Griffey Jr just hit #600!

Just thought I would share if some had not heard it yet.

Too bad injuries slowed him, or we might have seen a legit all time homerun leader, instead of a fraud like Bonds. I sure have enjoyed watching Griffey's great career.

Congrats, Ken Griffey Jr!!

Super, my son thinks Jr. is the best. On a side note I was just going through a box from my parents house (read free store unit) and found a stash of 20 donruss and fleer jr. rookie cards, I must have been "investing" (LOL) back in the day.
  • perhaps the truest slugger and ball player in the last 20 years.

Could have easily been at 700+ homers... if not for so much time lost due to injuries.

If he had gone the Bonds route (roid' and HGH) he might have 800 homers.

    class act.

No, he has never been the hitter that Pujols is, but he has been very good.

He's also not a smart mouth troll who comes into a thread just looking to cause trouble. image

Glad to see a good guy hit the 600 mark.

Though, I will always argue that Frank Thomas is the best hitter of the generation. With almost 1000 less at bats, .0642 HRs per at bat (as compared to Jr.'s .0663), and a better fairly stronger OBP and AVG.

If the pitchers fear him that much, there is something to be said for it.

Ok, I'll shut my mouth before I start sounding like one of those crazy player collectors.

Congratulations George! And in case anyone is wondering who the heck George is, that's Griffey's real first name. Ken(neth) is his middle name.

I agree, Frank Thomas was the better pure hitter of the 90's. Griffey had the most all around talent, though.

Nothing wrong with player collectors. image

Sweetest HR swing I've ever seen. Pure talent, love for the game and always looks like he's having fun. Congrats to one of the good guys!

I picked this up a couple years ago.

While you were made aware of the Sports Talk Forum on May 21st, you continue to post topics that belong on the Sports Talk Forum here on the Sports Cards & Memorabilia Forum. If you had thought to look at the correct forum for this topic, you would have seen that there was already a thread started there.

Congrats to tennesseebanker for bringing the thread around and picking up a very nice card to celebrate! The one I'm watching doesn't close until the weekend, but it's one I've had been watching to pop up for a while now...and just missed out on one this past weekend.

  • Gumby, get lost and stop trying to take the thread off course by trolling. If you don't like it, take a hike. It's that simple.

We have had other people posting ot threads about their kid playing the national anthem and such(nothing wrong with that either), so this is not any different. It's Griffey, and he is as important to the card industry as anyone in the last 20 years.

If the mods don't like this, or think this Griffey thread I started is a problem, they can let me know there is an issue. You are not the board police, rather, one of the smarty pants that has to pop off every time they see a slight opening to run off at the mouth. You just can't help yourself.

Like I said, if it bothers you, please go on, and do not enter again. That way, you will not have any reason/issues to troll and stir the pot.

I'm off my game tonight. I fully expected to be called a smart mouth troll, but only got the troll part. I'll have to try a little harder.

Edited to add, please tell me exactly how *I* took your OT thread "off course" by posting a sportscard. Then define irony.

Do those drugs make a person stay healthy?

Clearly sixth best centerfielder in history, easily one of top 50 players

    Should've Sniped

(or better yet, not spent the money on that)

(still well below what a few Bonds cards once sold for)

Don't you have anything better to do, than start your bull?

You and Allen have to be the 2 biggest smart mouth trouble makers that this forum has.

You posted a pic of a card, and tried to stir the pot and start some trouble at the same time. Only a blind man could not see what you were wanting to do. You just can't help yourself, but I guess you are to be pittied.

I will no longer try and win an arguement with someone who does not matter. If I try to debate a foolish person, I only bring myself down too. Not worth it.

Instead of distracting the subject away from Griffey, how about you just leave the thread and move on? That is, unless you just want to keep causing trouble. It only makes you look even more silly, so it's up to you.

    Good night.
  • I got the chance to see him hit #599 last Saturday. Several years back, I got to see him hit a grand slam in Arlington while playing for the Mariners. He's a class-act, future HOFer all the way. My generation's Mickey Mantle as far as card-collecting goes. It was funny to feel so giddy even today when pulling his All-Star RCs from the 90 Topps packs. Congrats Griffey!!!

YES!! Jumped right over the "smart mouth" and threw on the trouble makers! Thanks, pal...you just made my night.

You sure get predictably combative when someone points out your ignorance.
  • why the pissing contest? this post is welcome in this forum, Griffey is a hobby icon and a class guy. How about you just post about Griffey and leave your bullspit somewhere else.

Congrats to one of my all time favorites! And I agree with Goose...the sweetest swing in all of baseball! I saw him last year at the HOF game in Cooperstown even though he didnt play. Unfortunately, Ive never been able to watch him in a game live. He's still an amazing player.

And here is one I have for sale on ebay right now....ebay spam alert! ebay spam alert! Bid on my cards!!! image

There are only a select few people on the 600 HR list, some of them are even legit. Griffey has been a class act from day 1..more class
than Aaron, more class than Bonds and more class than Mays....that is almost more important than 600 is.

...and with the possible exception of Mantle, no one in the hobby gets more love than Jr. I do often think about the numbers Jr and
Thomas would of put up if they didn't get hurt. Proves you don't need a head the size of basketball to hit them out.

...and as far as Pujols is concerned, hit 500 first before you worry about 600!
