A little worn but still looking great
Took some quick images and will try to get better ones later.
I wonder if this medal have typical deep proof or prooflike fields?

Is this one made of copper? Tough to tell the metal from the pics.

<< <i>upon initially seeing one of these they are quite striking, but after seeing them over and over as has happened here they become rather bland, each one looking like the last. i guess that's why they need to tell us what cathedral it is, sort of like the Presidential Doolars that have to identify who's being honored. >>
The reason that they are very special to me is that I am an architect.
Architecture cannot and will never be as boring as a dead president may be.
It has to be very unfair to compare a rather boring, unflattering Prez. buck
to the timeless architecture of cathedrals!

Cool Medal.
Keets,
Your statement in my opinion would be like me saying, It only took me a few roles of Jefferson Nickels to feel that these coins are rather bland, it's good thing they have a date on them to know your looking at something differant huh
I guess if I ever find looking at a coin or medal with this much detailed design to be bland or boring, then perhaps it's time for me to find a new hobby.

<< <i>How would the relief of these medals compare to that of High Relief Saint? >>
I have not seen a High Relief Saint closeup, but the medal I posted is about 1/4 inch thick. The obverse is incuse by more than 1/16 inch and the reverse is about 1/16 inch above the fields (and even above the rims).

OK Al, fair enough.
If I understand your point, my medal is for the St. Petri Kirche in Hamburg.

With regard to the relief of the medal, I have placed morgan dollars into the fields of some and more than half of it's thickness fits easy. They are amazing but a pain to photograph because of it.

Beautiful medal and may I add, beautiful presentation.
Your pics are really nice and they add a nice dimension to this high relief piece.
One problem with their presentation here is they get more and more difficult to find as more
and more people keep an eye out for them.
A few illustrates the depth and dimension that these medals have.
