Try grading this 1919 Buffalo nickel

Seems mid-BU to me, MS64 tops and possibly MS63. Some softness in the bison's head.
On the plus side, the surfaces are practically devoid of marks, and the luster is a bit better in hand than what pix indicate.

would softness of strike really kill the grade that much? especially if the Luster is there?

"Looks" better than 63 marks wise, but I do see your point about the softness.

I'll agree with Guy @ 64. Some weakness in the indians' hair. Possible scratch in the field below Y in Liberty and behind the rear legs of the buffalo (die polish?) and possible hit across the lower part of the big feather? Luster does appear to be too good for a 63.

I don't know Guy. It could be AU58. I'm thinking there may be some breaks in luster on the hip and shoulder. Otherwise, 63.

I don't think the stike impacts the grade. I certainly don't see any reason for a 63, looks mostly like a nice 65, 64 at the worst! All in all another fine looking buff!

It is hard to tell the luster in the picture, but I think it looks like a solid 64, and perhaps a 65 if the luster is there.

And I will give that coin a Longacre sticker.
