Are they gonna do anything???? Notify ebay??? Buy those coins (NGC) and see how they're made, so they can get a jump on what they need to change??? >>
They have posted a warning on the NGC home page. They have also noted that a new holder is coming shortly.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector. Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
NGC, ANACS and PCGS for that matter should identify bad cert numbers so when you check it online it says known counterfits out there. Not a solution but it would help a buyer.
There are several misspellings on the PNG portion of the counterfeit hologram. This is the easiest way to identify a fake holder in hand. KNOWLEDGE is incorrectly spelled with an R as RNOWLEDGE INTEGRITY is incorrectly spelled with a G as INTEGRIGY NUMISMATISTS in incorrectly spelled as NUNISMATISTS
Thanks for a great post. A lot of good responses here as well.

Are you referring to NCM? I used to work for them, it was great to see the process of how a coin - in this case a casino token - was made. And the fact that the presses came from the SF and Denver mints was really neat!
having a list of bad numbers would help but would not protect in a lot of the cases. having a bad certificate number is often not the problem - often times the counterfeit slab will have a good certificate number on it (it is very easy to get good certificate number from the PCGS and NGC websites). the first one in a fake NGC slab had a good cert number that was correct for the type of coin that was contained in the fake slab.
it is really getting to the point that you have to know your coins as well as the slab that they are in...

There's only one choice...we have to nuke China immediately before the boat leaves port.
On a more serious note, look at the coin carefully before buying it. If a variety, confirm it by loupe. On eBay, pay by credit card only and chargeback through the CC company any counterfeits you get if need be. Deal only with reliable dealers as much as possible.

How reliable are slab weights? Or does putting a coin in a slab eliminate the validity of weighing coins to tests for counterfeits?
And we don't think the Cherrios packaging can be faked?
