How to stop spotting? on ASE

  You can search threads on here, but they all came to the same conclusion, there is no answer. But if you come up with one, it is worth $50K to you from PCGS.

  Don't buy them, then you won't have to worry about spots!!!

  He didn't ask how to remove spots, he asked how to prevent them. That is easily done with a quick dip.

  Russ, I have heard people say to dip in acetone before, but I also saw threads that the acetone caused spotting (possibly not done correctly?). My question is, has dipping in acetone actually been proven to prevent spotting? Thanks for your correction to my post, I am curious, as I got rid of most of mine except the Burnished coins, and would be interested in an acetone dip if it would help and not hurt.

  Sold all mine awhile back. Had a large amount of 2001's that never "spotted"(6 years). Until the problem is addressed/fixed, will stay away from these.

  There's a lot of confusion about this, but acetone is not dip. Dip is an acid based solution, such as eZest. Acetone is useless for preventing spotting.

  I think Russ is referring to the white spots that can be found on silver half-dollars from the 50's-60's. HRH has stated those are not the same as the 'milk spots' on ASE's.

  I give all mine a quick dip in acetone, than put in vacuum sealer bags with a little package of silica gel.
  The only coins I've had spot are my coins in TPG holders.

  Acetone will not dissolve the stuff responsible [either before OR after it appears] for spotting on ASEs; trust me; but Ezest probably will.

  If you want to assure your ASE's will not spot.. listen to Russ. Dip them .... otherwise, it is a gamble. Cheers, RickO

  Dip in ezest, rinse in tap water, rinse in distilled water, dip in 91% Isopropyl alcohol to remove any water residue, lightly press between a soft absorbant napkin to hasten the drying (no rubbing).
  
  This will thoroughly clean the surface of the coin thereby removing any contaminants that might possibly cause the milk spotting.

  I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  Best way is to just send them back to the mint

  I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  I use my Food Saver on them. I haven't had any spots and I figured it's worth a try!
