OnlyThe10s, I think one reason Gumbyfan is getting on you because you do appear to say two different things.
1. Buyer filed a paypal claim and won because it was not the card that was advertised. Buyer was refunded.
2. I refunded him because he was right, it's mislabeled
The first would seem to imply that paypal decided he was right. This usually takes days to resolve. If this was the case then a neg might be appropriate because you had time to resolve it on your own.
If you refunded him right away because "he was right" then you probably do not deserve a neg. PSA commonly mislabels variations.
One he escallated it to Paypal, I thought it was up to them to make the decision? I've never been involved in a buyer dispute before so I thought I handled this one correctly. There was an option that was something like I agree to refund or whatever... which I did....
And Blackborder... I'm definitely quitting the hoby because of this, HAHAHAHA
<< <i>And Blackborder... I'm definitely quitting the hoby because of this...... >>
And the CU message boards. Don't forget the CU message boards. Remember, quit the hobby AND the CU message boards. If for some reason you can only do 1, then by all means stay in the hobby and quit the CU message boards.
Tekno- I didn't read all the back and forth stuff up above so will not comment.
However, in response to your original question I was ready to answer YES when I read the title of the thread. However, after reading your post I think the buyer is clearly a jerk and thus his negging you was totally unnecessary and further more I am glad you negged him back. It is a shame people are like that. Tough break.

When you receive notice of a PP-dispute that you KNOW is legitimate, you should immediately issue a refund to close the matter. Waiting for a legit dispute to be escalated to a claim is an invitation to a NEG.

1) I mailed card 2) He got card 3) He noticed the card was not as advertised 4) he filed a paypal claim 5) I refunded him because he was right, it's mislabeled
You all set now? >>
Oh...one last thing. Since you refunded him because he was right...explain this.
<< <i>I'm disputing it because I sold it the way it was advertised. An example I gave the buyer was this: If I buy a car with 300 horsepower, then sell it to him, and it turns out it only has 250 horsepower, how the heck was I supposed to know? It's not like I have a dyno at home. >>
So as I have stated a few times throughout...there's always more to the story than our little buddy Alan cares to share. Whether the buyer was right or wrong to file a dispute over a $1 purchase aside, Alan's need to hide any facts that would incriminate him for deserving the negative is all I need to answer the question in your subject.

This type of dispute will only increase with the new ebay rules. Sellers will be giving cards away for free because of fraudulent Paypal claims. Maybe Storm can change his sig line to "Fraud Victoriously!"
Imagine selling 1961 Topps set for 4000 and advertising it as EXMT condition. The buyer gets the set and makes a paypal "claim" that item is not as described. Is Paypal going to side with the buyer and issue a refund? Will the seller be out the set AND the money? So many problems.....
I don't know if this has been covered but what happened between 1/27 and today?
In other words, why did it take him this long to give you a neg?
Did he just win the PayPal dispute or something? Were you fighting said dispute? Why didn't you just refund the $1 (+$3 SH) and move on?
So many unanswered questions prior to forming an educated opinion if you deserved the neg or not.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Forever ago? Like shortly after the auction? Do you mind looking it up in your PayPal history? If you didn't fight the dispute and immediately refunded the $4, why don't you contact the Buyer via eBay and ask why he decided to pop you with a neg now? Maybe he thought you were someone else?

At this time I only have 3 people I can throw away in the garbage, and Steve is not one of them, he's a cool dude, sure we had our differences in the past, but that was nothing, its all good, and Lee, I really don't think he's a bad guy, I haven't really seen him doing anything other than joke around, but the rest of the 3 I could care less.
And you, meusiumhistory or whatever, who are you? I don't even know you, not even of these boards, why would you think your in my fave 5??? You think you got to me at any point??? I didn't even know you existed, but yet you thought you were my top 5? Not even close.
Only 3 guys here that have nothing better to do then talk negative, and when others have something to bring to the table, they can't stand it so they have to say something negative, WHY??? Bring something to the board for a change instead of talking trash all the time, why can't you even try to say something thats worth it???

This is just my observation.
Buyer won a $1.00 dispute then leaves me a neg. SELLERS BEWARE!
If I have to go to a decision on a dispute over $1, I'm leaving negative feedback for the seller, too.

I agree in theory - I have had my share of ebay problems and don't air them here. I will only if I want to alert people of an ebayer that's suspect.
I gave it some thought - and as long as people respond, it's a worthy thread?
My opinion - I wish they would have a separate forum for ebay inquiries and "seller" debates.
But I do hear ya.

It is ALWAYS a mistake to fight a legitimate PayPal dispute/claim.
Best to ask for the item back -- if it has value -- and issue a refund.
I'm at the office.
A guy negs you over a buck card? What a tool! I'm assuming he escalated this to a paypal complaint without just contacting you?
That's a tough one to swallow - sorry to hear about this.
The next Bud's on me!

With everything going on I didn't realize it was for that cheap.
Theres definetly something wrong with that guy to do all that for a buck. I would have gave him the dollar to shut him up.

Craig does bring up an excellent point. I forgot about that.
Maybe the neg was retaliation after all.
