Final two suspects arrested in Wisconsin rare coin heist attempt

APPLETON — The recent arrests of Menasha and Appleton men complete the roundup of five suspects police think were involved in the Nov. 8 attempted armed theft of rare coins in Ellington.
Frank J. Kersten, 19, 604 Fifth St., Menasha, and Bobby Boshers, 41, 207 W. Foster St., Appleton, face preliminary hearings Monday and Tuesday, respectively, in Outagamie County Circuit Court.
Both are charged with being a party to attempted armed robbery and armed burglary. Kersten also is charged with bail jumping.
Outagamie County Court Commissioner Brian Figy placed the two on $10,000 cash bonds.
According to court records, on the night of Nov. 8, two people — one armed with a pellet gun — burst into a home in the N2800 block of Mayflower Drive and knocked down the female member of the household.
The woman hollered to her husband, who was upstairs. He replied that he had called police.
The intruders fled the house without taking anything.
It was later learned the couple had responded to a newspaper ad a few weeks before the incident advertising the purchase of rare coins.
The couple made contact with the advertised buyer about selling their collection.
According to the criminal complaint, the person who placed the ad, Frank Dimatteo, 53, 717 Timmers Lane, Appleton, conspired to set up the robbery.
Dematteo faces an April 28 preliminary hearing on a burglary charge. He remains in jail on a $5,000 cash bond.
Also charged are:
Myles Friebel, 19, 3347 Dekalb Lane, Neenah. Friebel is accused of being one of the two people who entered the house, although others involved offer different accounts as to who entered the house.
Friebel is charged with being a party to armed burglary, criminal trespass to a dwelling and disorderly conduct. He is free on a cash bond pending a May 7 trial.
Daniel N. Morack, 25, whose last known address was in Hortonville. He remains in jail under a $10,000 cash bond on charges of being a party to armed robbery and armed burglary. His arraignment is set for April 29.
