Ugly Coin Photo & Outrageous Story Contest

UtahCoinUtahCoin Posts: 5,366 ✭✭✭✭✭
Here's the rules.

1. Post a Very Good photo of a very bad coin.
2. Come up with the most outrageous story about the coin. The story should be in the format of an eBay auction description.
3. The coin should be worth more than face value, but less than 100 times face value.

The winner will be decided by a poll at a later date and the prize will be something.......

Rare Titanic Artifact!!!! LQQK!!!!!!!

This rare coin was retrieved from the wreck site of the HMS Titanic in the North Atlantic. The slight corrosion on this restored coin is simply evidence of the horror the coin witnessed that night in April of 1912. Rarely do articles from this historic shipwreck become available to the public. The coin will come to you with a Certificate of Authenticity (signed by me). We estimate the value of this rare coin to be in excess of $10,000. However, we will start the auction at only 99 cents with no reserve. Because of the historic nature of this auction, all sales are final and payment must be made only by cash or Western Union.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.
Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.

My GrandPa's favorite coin! A John Dillinger Barber Quarter! L@@k Here!!!!

Once in a Lifetime Opportunity! Own a piece of history! My grandfather was an avid coin collector. He was also a part of the Chicago Street Cleaning crew in July of 1934. When John Dillinger was gunned down in front of the movie theatre, it was my Grandpa's responsibility to clean up the scene once the detectives were done. Evidently missed by them, my grandfather saw something sparkling in the pool of blood he was about to clean up. Bending over to see what it was, he pulled this coin up out of the mess and slipped it in his pocket. Other than washing to blood off the coin, this is absolutely 100% original and is probably the last bit of change the famous outlaw received while taking in his last movie with the lady in red. Low starting bid of only 99 cents!

“Isabella consigns Chris’ portrait: Columbus rejects same. (AP, 7:54 April 7, 1490). Her highness, the Queen, presented Christopher Columbus with a First Strike issue of the newly consigned Columbus Commemorative coin. The coin depicts on the front a likeness of the sailor himself. The reverse depicts the sailing ship Santa Maria, a seaworthy ship upon which Mr. Columbus is scheduled to sail to explore new trade routes to India. Eye witnesses state that Mr. Columbus so disliked his portrait on the metal that he defaced it with his knife and a box of crayolas … story developing.”

Historical records indicate that this First Strike coin has been handled by none other than Queen Isabella and Christopher Columbus! What a treasure! What a find! Don’t let this one get away!

    Photodocumentation of the lead story!

Ultra Rare 1802 Large Cent From Thomas Jefferson’s Secret Stash! L@@K!!

We recently purchased the estate of a gentleman who was hospitalized, and was selling a few things to pay his medical bills. He apparently worked construction at one time, and helped with the renovation of Thomas Jefferson’s ‘Monticello’ in the 1970’s. One day, while working on the dumbwaiter, he found a hidden compartment in its bottom. Inside this compartment was this 1802 Large Cent, obviously put there by Mr. Jefferson himself! It looks as fresh and new as it did the day it was put there by the former President, who was having financial difficulties at the time, and was hoarding money. To verify this fantastic artifact’s historical provenance, a letter of authenticity will be included (see scan) from the finder, Giovanni Jones. This letter also details the fascinating story of how he found the coin. Don’t let this rare opportunity to own a piece of history get away. Bidding starts at just $.99! Bid with confidence! I have 10 feedbacks, and only two are negative! I expect payment by bank wire within 10 minutes of the end of the auction. Due to increasing fees and rampant corporate greed, I DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL!! Shipping charge of $65.00 applies for FedEx overnight Saturday early AM shipping. I reserve the right to change shipping method at any time. Also, no questions, please. If you can't make a decision whether or not to bid from the photos and description, you are a moron who should be banned from eBay. Happy bidding!

    L@@K!!!!!

I've recently become unemployed, so I am selling my grandfathers unsearched estate of guaranteed authentic coins. This wonderful proof cion came from an unsearched roll of bank cions. What you see here is a high end AU-54 gold eagle from 1913. The mint only made two of these coins ever, and only one of them has ever been submitted to the grading services. The other one is on display in the Smithsonyan in washington. AU-54 is a unique grade, used only for the most historically and important coins such as this one that Breen once owned. This is an error stab, as it should be written as a Breen coin...worth more l@@K. Since I am unemployed, I can absolutley accept no returns on certifyed cions. The slab is extra valuable because this is a proof cion and they misgraded it.

This coin was discovered embedded in the sole of Charles Barbers left shoe after his death. He must have thought the coin to be very special. And, now, you can too!

Starting bidding at $1,000. PCGS cannot list the price of this graded coin, as it is unique and hard to set a price on something that is truly priceless!

Secret service says I must keep quiet because it is national secrecy but this is a super coin with a pegidegree! George keeps these metals in his shoe, as all folks with truly precious coins do.

This super rare copper colored coin is what we experts call a ghost coin. This coin was found in a cemetary and when it was first found it still looked like a cent. Then one day i looked at it and all the detail was gone!! Ever since that day I have experienced nothing but bad luck. My eggs have been served cold to me everyday!, I didnt win lotto and I had to work late. On top of that, Ive been seeing this weird guy with a top hat and a beard everywhere! In my coffe, in the clouds and even in my toast! I need to get this coin away from me so it can stop haunting my life! Do not buy unless you can deal with these harships!

    So thats my story image

Bid high and bid often folks!

okay, okay okay. i'm a chemical guy, see. I really know about it, like the stuff, use the stuff, drink the stuff and love the stuff. not the kind of love where you LOVE on it, just kind of love that makes you happy. Like a cat i once owned that had two spots, she didnt' like the chemical smell of my mom's basement where i live but i loved her anyway. the cat that is, i guess i love my mom too, but that is a different kind of love; and by LOVE i don't mean the gross kind, just a strong like. okay, about the coin. i love chemicals, i have ADD and i like coins.

i find a website about companies that grade and protect coins. i got the idea on an ebay auction where a guy has a lot of colorfully toned coins for silly money and he claims he is just displaying them. yeah right Duffy, or whatever your name is. i'm no genius chemical ADD guy although i do know how to do the crosswords really well, and can find my car keys when i need to, but his coins are for sale and we all know it!!! i need money to eventually move out before i turn 40 in a few months, and found some coins that uncle Carl gave me a few years ago. Being that i love chemicals and all, and when i say LOVE it means, well i won't go into that again. I found the silver coins, and used my chemicals to turn the silver some really pretty colors, all colors of the rainbow actually, like the ones in my mom's dress that she bought at Macys around 1977.

Going back to my chemicals, well, i suppose i should continue with my project first. I found those grading companies and first sent a few off to PCI, whoever they are. I used mom's credit card, you know the one with the pictures of the basset hound on it. i don't LOVE basset hounds like she does, but it is fine for charging these things along with my chemical purchases from Sri Lanka. The coins were returned to me after i waited forever, something like 9 days. they thought i did a good job on the coins, and mentioned it on the label.

well, a guy in my chemical brothers club mentioned he collects some pennies, and has heard of these graders. the PCGS one is probably worth more, even though they were rude and didn't commend me for my work on the label like the PCI was good enough to do. that is fine by me, as i'd like a better profit to buy more and more nice chemicals. I don't like the highly flammable ones though, as moms thinks i'll get hurt down here, but i'm a big boy now, right? on a side note, this other company that i found after PCI took forever to grade my coins, something like 3 months, and didn't even credit me for my work, and i think they charged me too much for some picture service i asked for but didn't get, oh well.

Okay, i'll take cash and checks right now. if i can get mom to link her account, i can do that Paypal thing, but i need to make more coins and more money from them to prove to mom that i'm serious this time. okay, please let me know if i can make you any coins with specific patterns, but i can't do that spider-man thing or camoflage. i get too much on my hands, and i waste chemicals. Keep in mind that when i make it, it takes PCGS forever to send them back to me in the holder, so i ask for your patience please.

oh, and i'm not willing to ship to Burma, Burkina Faso, the Maldive Islands, The Congo, or parts of the US where rednecks live. Thanks and good luck!

Brian & Deon (my current cat)

    www.neonDeonAndChemicalBrian.com

please note: the coin resides in the PCGS thing. it used to be in the PCI thing, and they were nice enough to appreciate my work. this other company rudely put it in this thing with no mention of my skills, but an artist must live within himself i guess. I show both holders of the same coin for illustration purposes only. If you'd like to have my work recognized on the label, i will send the coins to PCI instead of PCGS for an extra fee.

This coin dates back to the early chi-na-ling dynasty
Found recently while cleaning out my great-great-great-grandmothers bank box.
She was a fine lady working in the red light district of the 1890's San Francisco port area
It is said this coin was given to her by a chineeze ships captain for her services.
This coin was rapped in fine red silk with a note stating it was 18,500 years old making it
the oldest coin ever found. This coin is over one chineeze ounce of copper.
Look at picture to see the great beauty and detail then place your highest bid.
I know you will never see one of these beauties come up at auction ever again.

    1877 Proof 3 Cent AG-3 holed

The Bush economic policies haven't worked out so well for our family and to save our house, I must liquidate my collection.

This coin was pass down to me from my g'ma and was the anchor for my collection. It is a rare 1877 three cent nickel. These were only struck in proof in 1877 and few survive today. Check the population reports. This coin grades somewhere between AG-3 and G-4, but since it was holed and warn as a good luck charm by my great-grandmother's uncle in France during WWI, I'm listing it at the lower grade.

After the war, the coin came back to the States and my grandmother kept it as a keepsake from her family. She dutifully kept the heirloom polished, cleaned and problem free. The coin certainly shows a lot of wear, but for an G-4 (net AG-3) the surfaces have a lot of original luster.

I sincerely want this coin to go to a good home. I'm opening the bidding at $199 and there is no reserve. This is easily a $2000 coin.

As always, no refunds but free shipping for the winner. Bid with confidence - I'm a powerseller.

  • EXCEEDINGLY RARE PCGS BODY BAG PATTERN

For many years rare coin submitters have asked where PCGS got the idea for the design for its award winning body bag. Renowned numismatic experts have secretly discussed and debated this for many years and now the answer has been found. The prototype or "pattern" was discovered when PCGS moved to its new corporate headquarters building. Details of how that discovery was made are still under investigation and authorization to reveal the amazing details has not yet been granted. However, after months of intense negotiations, we were able to acquire this rare and likely unique historical gem and now proudly make it available to you.

To prevent potential counterfeiting of this treasure, our legal advisors have recommended that absolutely no photographs be shown. This action is just one of many being taken to protect the winning bidder. Other safeguards include keeping bidders' and the seller's identities private, shipment in a plain brown envelope, and no returns of this item to insure that counterfeiters do not acquire this priceless piece, copy it and then return it. Of course what you do with your new prize possession is entirely up to you.

To help celebrate this highly significant auction, we are offering free shipping and insurance with this item and as an added feature absolutely no fees. What you bid is what you pay.

With a once in a lifetime opportunity such as this, sellers remorse is always a possibility and we have taken legal steps that will prevent us from withdrawing this item from sale. Just another protection for you if you are the lucky winning bidder.

Many collectors believe body bags have religious connections as God's name is often mentioned when receiving one. Perhaps you will have a similar experience if you win this item. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee this but can attest that most of our past winning bidders have.

RARE TRIAL PIECE! This ultra-rare 1829 in about uncirculated condition is almost too perfect to believe! Fresh mint shine is seen beneath originally toned surfaces. The coin received some markings as a result of trial testing by the Mint when first struck. Such marks include adjustment marks using a novel process to bring overweight planchets to the correct size, as well as central-planchet hollowing to remove larger amounts of excess metal. As you can see, the engraver hand-signed and dated this piece, abbreviating 1803 as '03. Yes, this coin was in fact struck as a trial well before the design was debuted. A significantly rare coin worthy of any collection, and one with more accolades than could fit on the insert.
