Best way to avoid spotting/toning on your ASE's?

So I got a little scared when I read about these stories of ASE's spotting hideously. So now I keep my PCGS Reverse Proof-70 inside of two ziploc bags with a metal, rechargeable desiccant in the innermost bag. Is such toning/spotting more of a function of heat or humidity (I am not talking about the impact of sulphuric paper whose storage effect are well documented)? Maybe the basement is the best place to store it (next to the classic board games I haven't played in about two decadesimage Perhaps it is foolish to think that one can alter the inevitable and inexorable course of mother nature?

It all depends on whether or not they are pre-disposed to spotting as some of them are and some of them are not. I believe that humidity plays a role in promoting whatever reaction is taking place on the surface.

I stored a quantity of 1986 through 1994 Proof ASEs in Original Government Packaging for many years in a closet in an upstairs bedroom with an exterior brick wall, with no milk spotting whatsoever.

Question to All: Are any years more prone to spotting? Maybe the Mint changed their rinse procedures or composition?

Are milkspots common to all types of ASEs - Proof, burnished finish, and regular uncs?

    Just curious.

I'm not buying any more period raw or otherwise. If I could dump all my slabbed ones for a decent price, I'd do it soooo fast you would get whiplash from watching me do it.

I buy them with milk spots. Then they can't break my heart.

Have these been known to spot in the OGP?

I have only seen them spot in the PCGS holders.

I have some in the NGC holders and have not seen a problem with them

Hey Master Guns, thats vacuum. image

Hey Gunny, I took the same approach, 2006 Anniv. Sets sealed the day I received them from the MInt, no spotting, nothing.

I have no scientific proof that the sealing is the reason they are spot free, but I'll keep praying.

Such extreme measures should not be necessary.

Silver IKE's and Kennedy's suffer from milk spots as well. Some of the 1971-S blue pack coins looks horrible and they are still stealed in the cello!
