$20,000 in coins stolen from Florida coin shop

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Thousands of dollars worth of coins and jewelry are stolen from two stores. Both crimes happened in Pensacola early Monday morning. All American Coin and Jewelry on 9th avenue had surveillance video.

In the surveillance video, you can see thieves take a hammer and smash through the front door, and then shatter the displays. The owner of All American Coin and Jewelry said, "They got a massive amount of stuff, as you can see by video tapes, they make quite a few trips going in and out."

Bruce says he doesn't leave the high dollar items in the store overnight, but the burglars took lots bags of bulk coins, totaling about $20,000.

They weren't the only store hit, burglars also smashed and grabbed at Warrington Jewelers. Investigators say it appears these guys are responsible for both crimes.

All American Coin and Jewelry is offering a $500 reward. If you have any idea who did this, please call the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.

He's had a string of bad luck recently.

Probably busy busting a guy for selling a dimebag of marijuana or pulling over a motorist doing 10 miles per hour over the speed limit... you know, trying to prevent the really "heinous" crimes.

The police seem more dedicated to enforcing sprinkling and smoking bands these days at the direction of city managers.

Not blaming the owner, but a little prevention goes a long way.

Considering the economic data, I am always scepticle of such news. Losses in dollar values, and stocks could lead to more cases of theft, or insurance fraud. Fraud is always going to be an issue, even more so now. I would expect insurance fraud to rise, and insurers to become devalued in the market place loosing billions.

In this type of environment were the fed warns of a recession, and oil prices sky rocket.
I am more the critic when faced with such overwhelming news, and evidence that the dollar will continue to fall after the next wave of bullishness in dollar yen.

We are in a recession considering most would agree. Economic growth has been low for the 3rd time in a row in as many reported, and jobless claims continue to rise..

Thats just my opinion, but it is also the opinion of the greater percent of America too. Ideas such as this type of forward looking, can make many of man rich.

Seek opportunity based on the past, refer to the fibonacci spiral, and game theory. A proven way to see the future based on the TIME, and sentiment.
Its much easer to just stop and look what is going on all around you.

Its sad to say the least, but what happens in times like these? more people become jobless, or even homeless? They become more desperate to survive.

If you think fraud, I would suggest you get some facts.

Knowing Bruce, he most likely was not insured, so fraud would be a little difficult, but that's jsut me and knowing Bruce.

Well, who knows.... I live on a county line: Police in the City of Sarasota (Sarasota County) would probably be busy arresting someone for cursing or spitting in public... maybe a DUI.... and the Police in Bradenton (Manatee County) are likely arresting dope addicted gang-bangers & hood-rats that are hauling around fully automatic weapons and doing drive-by & home invasions.... you just never know.

I wasn't excusing, It just makes me wonder (every time) I hear this kind of outright coin theft, either from a shop, or a man at a coin show in the parking lot.
Time, and time again it makes me wonder. It can only get allot worse, unless more caution is used.
Expectingly in Florida, with large populations, and were homes are becoming vacated due to the housing bubble.

Continued thefts at coin shows year, after year seem to have become the norm.
the very, very rich get richer money talks, or the poor get poorer. bribes, Lobbying, or even a TPG will take money if it makes them richer, knowing it is both unethical and, wrong.

I have heard the larger submitters get better grades right, or that special friend? Specifically other members, right here on this forum say thats a fact. look at all the money the Clinton's made this year. WOW!
Crooks will come out of the wood work either way, both insider, and outsiders rich, and poor alike.
Now is not the time to think it is going to get any better either. Its just a matter of realizing truth, and human nature.

Sorry , the truth sometimes hurts, I know this first hand.

This sounds like your typical drug addict crime. I'd say those police out there picking up the dope pushers/users are doing a lot more good in the long run than bothering with checking closed store fronts. When it comes to allocation of resources it is tough to second guess the police who have more than enough on their plate dealing with crimes to persons over crimes to property. It is always unfortunate when any crime resuilts in losses to innocent victims, but it sounds like a reasoned business decision to leave out the bulky and lesser valued items. It does not take much junk silver to get to $20,000 value in today's market. Hopefully the surveillance videos will do their job but believe me it would cost the taxpayers a lot more than $20,000 to add the manpower to prevent this $20,000 loss. Also it is up to the business owner to make the risk reward business decision of whether or not to buy insurance. Let's at least hope organized crime hasn't gotten back into the protection racket here and that this wasn't just a bunch of thugs trying to send a message.

Sounds like amateurs, or drug users, by the way they smashed their way into the store.

Amateurs or not they still made off with the loot.

Pretty bold of them to make several trips in and out.

Sounds like they spent a few minutes ripping off the place.

Hope they are caught and prosecuted.

why is it that the prevailing opinion of the Police is that since they aren't sitting across the street waiting for this to happen, then they were engaged with petty crimes like spitting and speeding?? it's just as likely that they were involved in a domestic disturbance, another burglary or maybe(and i know this is a stretch for some of you guys) they weren't aware of what was happening.

give the Boys-in-Blue a break, OK?? they do a pretty good job and i don't think they're the problem in this situation.

I set up at a couple of coin shows that Bruce sets up at. He is one of the good guys. Sorry to hear about the break in Bruce. I hope the po-po nails their arses.

Trust me on this, that does not happen here. It is extremely rare to ever see
anyone pulled over for speeding in FL.

Thank you for all of your comments. The police have prints and also blood from the burgulars. The coins that were stolen were my packed orders ready to ship and also all of my baged coinage that we ship every week. All the good stuff was in the vault and yes i do have insurance and it does not cover items not in the vault. As for the reward there were a total of five stores hit and crime stoppers is offering $2000 for information to each one. The thiefs looked like pros and had been in before. We have eight cameras and the police have pleanty of video. We also have the car and plate on tape in four video clips that show not only the side view but also the tag so for what it is worth.

Indeed! Bob sent me a video one day when he was still up here in PA showing a guy returning to sell him some gold that he had stolen from Bob's store. The cops were waiting!
