Hiijacked again??? Four times in two months??? Why does this keep happening? Anyone else? Can I do a
So, coming home from Opening Day on Monday, I get a big @#$! burger in my email box. For the fourth time in two months, someone "hiijacked" another person's account and placed a well calculated ($455) bid on one of my more expensive cards. WTF??? Ebay tells me that they erase the listing and can't contact the next highest bidder. The first time it happened it was on my '60 Kaline which sold for $600+ and after re-listing it went for $380. When I called to complain I told the rep that I felt that they owed me the difference for the Kaline in a seller's credit (and whatever the difference would be on the Yaz) and he just gave me the run around. He didn't have a manager or supervisor to speak to, so I just hung up. This is beyond frustrating. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I fly under the radar.
Steve
How many times have I seen while on vacation people accessing their e-bay accounts while on vacation, I don't even want to begin to count.
They then just get up and leave. More concerned in saving their precious "time" and saving a few pesos rather than shutting down the site properly and erasing all tracks. Then someone comes on and has a hey-day with the account.
Remember also, that those internet cafes may have keyboard tracking on them as well.
You have GREAT cards!
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Remove any swear-words from your listings.
2. NEVER express anger at EBAY or anybody else in a listing.
3. Remove any drama from your listings. Buyers do NOT care about your problems.
(Vent here, not in your listings.)
4. For awhile, on select listings, try BINs and use the "Require Immediate Payment" feature.
(Set the BIN at the highest price you think an auction-listing would bring.)
5. On select "fraud sensitive" listings, make PayPal your SOLE payment option; block bidders
w/o a PP account.
..........................
..........................
My suspicion is that you do NOT have a problem with fraudulent buyers. You LIKELY have a
problem with a scumbag competitor/enemy. The stretch of credulity required to assume that
you are so often being hit by hijacked-accounts is not within ANY reasonable comfort zone.
When a bidder reports "unauthorized account use," EBAY does NOT investigate such use
PRIOR to cancelling any outstanding transactions; they simply kill the results. MANY EBAYers
have dozens of disposable accounts that were established long ago. Making a false claim
within such accounts bears no consequences to the claimant.
Review your records in an attempt to identify your potential personal/business enemies.

I guess ebay did not even give you the chance to do a second chance offer to the second bidder in the $600 auction. Maybe you would not have lost so much then. That is where I would fault ebay.
<< <i>Any chance you had a dispute with another person on ebay in the last few months and they are being vindictive toward you? >>
That's what I'm thinking too. It just doesn't happen that often to everybody else.
Monitor any seller/buyer you had ANY dispute with.
Contemplate any problems you have had with anybody outside of EBAY.
Ex-spouses - gfs - are notorious for messing with online sellers.
There is little/no way that this can be random.
I'm sorry to hear about people jerking you around though. That sucks.
As far as the other comments, there may very well be a rival seller who is jealous or it could be the schmuck who complained about the $4 shipping rate. Everyone else has been really nice to deal with. The Arod cards were bid on with a Hiijacked account out of the UK with little craft item buys. The Kaline and this situation were US accounts. This is the guy who's account pimped me on the Yaz:

Let it go.. If it was the high bidder chances are you would never recieve a dime and would have to wait through the entire UPI process. 99% of the time second change offers are never taken so rarely worth the time to even send them.
You got all your fees refunded so just move on.
<< <i>Why is this board becoming the Ebay complaint department. Talk to a customer rep, we can't do a thing about anyone's situation on the bay. >>
Because its human nature to be negative. Remember there are millions of transactions that take place everyday on Ebay, people only talk about the bad ones.
If you did piss somebody off, who was it? Think, think hard and try to figure it out. Like I said, nothing against you, I don't know you, i'm just giving my $0.50
Giovanni
I'm sorry to hear about your problem and personally I welcome people venting their frustration - but to be honest - I also have a little bit of interest in why you felt it necessary to link the new auction - sure looks like good ole spam to me also.
So - I'm with Dr J - the ebay vents may be approaching critical mass IMO.
But, I do wish you the best on the sale of the card, it's a beauty!

One thing i've always wondered is why would it matter if somebody shows their auctions? Wouldn't it be helpful for the people who want that card? Maybe they haven't searched for that card in a while and need it, and just don't know its up???
Why is it such a crime to show off your auctions? Whats the big deal anyway? Don't people always talk off topic here? Myself included and most people here have done it before and thats fine, but why is it a crime to show auctions? I just don't get it.
Don't people already do that? Even long time members are always showing off their auctions, you included. I have seen you pimp your auctions before, so why are you jumping on him? I actualy came across your auction pimp post about a week or two ago.
I personaly don't care who shows their auctions, I think thats fine, and I also think it could give some people a heads up that a card is up that they might be interestead about. Another board member might be interestead and you might want to sell to make money to buy more cards, so whats the problem?
Anyway, lets all try to stay classy and just move on with things

Now i have to add liar to the long list of things that are wrong with you. When I am "pimping my auctions" as you so intellectually put it, I put a link to them in my signature line so they show up in every post I make, or I start a thread in the Buy, Sell, and Trade forum where it belongs. I have never spammed this forum, and when I say this forum I mean the Sports Cards & Memorabilia forum.
There is a "right place" for everything and everyone, but I guess if that were actually true, you'd never make another post here at Collector's Universe.
All I wanted to know from the people on the board who may have more knowledge than I do in this situation (not the people who don't) was if there was anything I could do to prevent this situation from happening again. Those of you who responded positively, thank you. To the jerk who reported the listing to ebay...get a life.
<< <i>I didn't think that one of my bretheren would rat me out though. Not cool. >>
You want to consider the members here brethren, but you show a lack respect to their policy of not spamming the Sports Cards & Memorabilia forum with your auctions. I've seen it politely asked of you many times before I mentioned it in this thread, yet you still do it as if to say you don't care what your brethren have asked of you. Why should any of the brethren then care if it was one of them that reported you? Good luck with your greasy spoon.
<< <i>Next time I will figure out how to imbed a link...like yours. >>
That's good. As for who reported your auction, look elsewhere.
BUT... You were told by several posters here that it would probaly be pulled if you did not change it. You failed to do that and put your entire Ebay account(s) at risk.. Now you look like a scammer to those who were bidding on the item at the time.
FWIW most posters here will admit to reporting an auction when they do.
As I stated previously when you mentioned it (not sure if you read it), the re-list already had many bidders. The only way to alter the auction at that point would be to cancel it once again...which did not seem prudent. I took the advice. I agreed. But there wasn't much I could do at that point.
You also seem to chime in on a lot of threads with cards related to the topic that you have for sale, like if the thread is "What is a 1955 xyz worth?" you will jump in with "I have one for sale if anybody's interested." That tells me that your number one goal in being here is to sell your cards to board members, and that is what the BST forum is for. I have no doubt that your cards, service and packing are top-notch, but you're using this forum primarily to sell your cards which is why people are taking such offense to your existence here.

This leads me to believe you're trolling (in the fishing sense) the boards for buyers.
And these are threads you started asking some type of pointless question or comment about a card or cards you coincidentally have on ebay:
Thread 1
Thread 2
Thread 3
Thread 4
Thread 5
It doesn't seem to me like you're concerned at all with getting information or contributing to the forums. If you really had a question about cards you own, wouldn't you ask them before you started listing them on ebay?
<< <i>I guess I've been posting a link only to serve as a quasi nameplate...not to sell items. If the people on the board think otherwise, I just don't have enough time to change people's minds. >>
Doing a quick search, 4 of your last 5 threads were spamming your auctions here.

There's A LOT more but you get the point.
<< <i>Again, I do appologize for being lazy and not putting my auction link in a name tag...like Clemaz and his shoes for sale. That, as stated previously a few times, I will work on. >>
You are missing the point.
1) Stop creating threads on this board promoting your auctions.
2) Stop replying to other threads with your only comment being about your auction.
It's not like this rarely happens. As shown above, you have an established history of doing this.
Do you understand now or are you just going to make another sarcastic remark about Clemaz's auctions?

I will try to PM people from here on in who are seeking specific cards in their posts so as not to ruffle any more feathers. >>

Clemaz auction link is in his signature. If you would like to put one in your signature nobody will care. Click on the profile link above and you can edit many things, including your sig. The more you repeat Clemaz, the more ignorant it is making you look.
However, if 90% of all your replies are I have that for sale, or check out this item I have for sale......then I think that would fit anyone definition of spam. To try to tell everyone it is not, repeatedly, does not make me want to buy anything.

I don't particularly mind the link with a thread.
But, since perception is reality - the general consensus is that you have an ulterior motive for your participation.
The evidence provided is pretty compelling.
And - also - if you can learn to link, you can learn to link in the sig line - to be frank, this isn't about you being lazy IMO.
There's a major difference between a spam here and there and having it as the sole purpose for being here; that's the perception - and I'm affraid there's nothing you can say to change that short of proving it by participating here without a hint of spam for a long while.
I don't know you and mean no disrespect - these are my observations.
Good luck on the sale.
