How can a bunch of sound waves "melt" the plastic together?

    The plastic shells vibrate against each other and the heat produced by friction melts them together.

    Actually I think the molecules vibrate causing the plastic to heat until it melts similar to cooking in a microwave oven.

    In the same manner that ultrasonic brazing melts the brazing metal.... high frequency produces heat, fuses the plastic. Cheers, RickO

    I was thinking along the microwave thing too. You can tune the waves to an individual thing. Old microwaves were not tuned that well so they got all goofy when you put metal in them where the new ones have the waves tuned in such a way that they ignore the metal grill you can put in for the pot roasts.

    The method used is a flock of hummingbirds. They hum, of course, because they don't know the words. They hum for awhile, then the Seal appears. However, Heidi Klum stays home babysitting. Seal sings a cover of "Hummingbird", an old Seals and Crofts song, accompanied by the hummingbirds. All of this commotion bothers the coin inside the slab, causing it to shut tightly to keep out the noise.

    tmt99, how much does a seal sticker get paid,and is this a taser type thing or a sharp instrument? Also, what makes the sticker more important? If it wasn't for seals there would be no need for seal stickers. Then what would they do, go to work as mercenaries? Respectfully, John Curlis

    We used to use Branson ultrasonic welders to weld plastic auto parts together. Very reliable technology. You have to make a tool (horn) to hold the parts and focus the sonic energy on the weld joint.

    I don't know exactly what technology is used to seal the PCGS slabs - ultrasonic would be my first guess.

    I agree with Cameonut. I believe that an ultrasonic horn is used to focus the energy to the seal area of the plastic.

    don't know about that microwave thing .
    my frozen dinner is hot inside , but the
    plastic film pulls right off of the plastic tray!
    no heat seal there .
    also ,i tried that vibrating thing .
    went to sears paint department and
    used one of them coin world holders ,
    and stuck it into that shaky/vibrating
    paint mixing machine . it shook and
    vibrated for like four minutes .
    released the clamp and the danged
    holder just feel apart and my nickel
    rolled and dissappeared under one
    of the shelves !
