Not sure if you are using a DSLR or not but I have found the luster shows more if you use the lowest F-stop. That allows in the most light and gets you the fastest shutter speed. If the shutter is held open too long the luster kinda gets muted or blurred.
It was kind of an optical illusion to me when I looked at your obverse pic- it almost looked like the edges of the coins were shaved off, since the peripheral toning is darker than the center of the coin.
