going to smoke - will be emitting green smoke.
I guess I read that as 55's not 55-s
The major ones to look for can be found here
http://www.coinfacts.com/small_cents/cents_lincoln_wheat_reverse.html
But you sound like you already know basically what to look for.
<< <i>Holy carp!
Thats what I said !!!
The 55-S has a nice Rpm, the S/S/S, in primo BU it is pretty pricy

edited to add: for each roll you open up, gloved hand or not, you could be leaving alot of $$ on the table (as was brought up by TDN in the previous thread, after seeing that incredible roll of '37-S's all laid out like that, as gorgeous as they are, he is right). cullenbryant has given the advice that, personally, I think should be heeded. Its a great lot you have there, and there are tons of RD's (that '37-S roll...oh myyyyyyyyyyyyy). I dont think any better advice can be given. As soon as they go into those tubes, they are no longer original, unsearched bank rolls. Period. You potentially have a great thing there. Dont continue to devalue it. If you dont know any trusted person on these boards, many can be suggested...many have rock solid reputations.
I'd love to see pics of the rolls before being opened.
How did you come by this great roll collection? Always love the story behind the coins.
Have you thought of selling any of these rolls unopened?
Kindest Regards,
John
1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
By the way, that roll of 1960-P Lincolns appears to be the Small Date Variety. It used to be the hot roll back in about 1961-2, and it probably does command a nominal premium even now.
If you don't subscribe to Coin World, you should start a subscription. They have a Coin Values insert which contains pricing for BU Rolls (near the last page) every month or so. The prices are only a guide and are usually a bit low, but at least you would have a reference point.
How long have you been a collector?
I knew it would happen.
It's like having a bunch of Van Gogh paintings completely wrapped, never seen, and selling them as such for a premium. Keep them wrapped! Keep them wrapped! Oh my God, keep them wrapped!
I also "like" how others try to make the OP feel bad about what they have done in opening them. Sheesh! The real weirdos are those that would keep and sell them unopened.
I understand the whole unopened OBW thing, but it you have to admit it is silly!
<< <i>I do not know the history of this 'hoard' of OBW's.... but I am curious... how did (for example) the 37's get into a clear plastic sleeve? They did not have that then... at least I do not think so.... sorry if I came late to the party.. but I read the entire thread (have been traveling for a while - may have missed the OP)... so if it has been explained, sorry... but one more time for me please? Cheers, RickO >>
Here you go ricko, the beginning of the story
1500 coins to PCGS by way of Bulk Submission ?
About 9 bucks per coin, give or take a few red cents.

Am I mistaken?

I'll admit no such thing! jmski thinks that OBW rolls are sometimes worth keeping that way, not because of money - because they are a particular kind of link to the past.
I knew it would happen.
How many rolls have you NOT opened?
The name is LEE!
SOMMER, YOU JUST DAMAGED THOSE COINS AND COST YOUSELF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS - MAYBE EVEN TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS - BY OPENING THOSE ORIGINAL ROLLS AND PUTTING THEM IN TUBES!!!
The 1930s and 1940s cents in MS68 condition can be worth more than $10,000 EACH, but in MS67 condition are only worth hundreds of dollars each. Original rolls like you have are where people find MS68s. Who knows what you had before you opened these rolls?
UNLESS YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT HAVING MORE MONEY IN LIFE, GET SOME PROFESSIONAL ADVICE BEFORE YOU EVEN GET IN THE SAME ROOM AS YOUR COINS AGAIN!!!
Sheesh.
