Gold Buffalo Proof Error?
Hello All
First time poster with a question for the board. I recently submitted a 2006 Buffalo Proof that had a piece of rusting metal (~ 1- 2mm in size)embedded in the forehead of the indian. I recieved the coin from the mint in this condition. What are the chances that PCGS will recognize this as an error? Anyone heard of any error proof Buffs? TIA

Any Pics???
You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
Never mind; I found it in Lingo.
An error caused by a foreign object that got between the dies and the planchet when a coin was struck. A common Struck Thru error is a piece of wire that leaves an indentation that is usually mistaken for a scratch.
Anyone think the type of error I described, if PCGS recognizes it, would make this coin substantially more valuable?
If you sent the coin into pcgs still in the mint packaging they might slab it *shrug*
Is toned platinum next?

Depends on severity.
Yes they did! The label reads:
2006-W $25
Mint Error
PCGS MS69
Struck Thru Thread Rev
First Strike (without the flag - green label)
Errors are a lot of fun. As far as how much is worth, somebody here will probably pm you and offer to buy it as soon as they see pictures (and you will probably like it too). I just liked the coin more than I liked the idea of selling it (I've always love errors)!
Yes, as they are accidents.
Well said. Here's a picture of the label and the slab:
Edited to add pictures.

Much to my chagrin; My "error" 2006-W Gold Buffalo graded PR69DCAM. I could not wait to see why they did not call it an error, so I call CS at PCGS. The lady told me that there was a note attached, it read, " metal impurity; not mint error".
At any rate, it is a very interesting looking coin. It does strike me as odd that a .9999 fine gold coin with a metal impurity does not rate an error. I will post some decent pics when the coin returns. I look forward to the boards' opinion and critique.
i kinda have to agree with you there....
.999 pure is supposed to be PURE !!!
if there is something going on with the coin "we need pix"
