Kewl $2 1/2 Indian Gold Mint Error

BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭
Found this newly posted image at Bob Green of Park Ave Numis's site, a really neat coin as Gold Mint Errors are quite scarce.

It's a 1925-D PCGS AU58 which has been Double Struck In Collar with a 180 Degree Rotation with a majority of the first strike detail present.

    That is really cool.

If I were to choose between this and the 1809 CBH 15% OC posted this morning, this would get my vote.

I hate when the price is listed as "POR". Why do dealers play these games? Just tell us what the freakin price is.

That is awesome. I've never seen a gold error like it.

I don't generally care for errors, but that is one neat coin. In addition to the double strike, I love the toning.

Shoot, I would have paid double the normal rate but SUV pricing is insane.

As far as $2 1/2 Indian Mint Errors are concerned this is the cats meow.

Off Centers in 3, 5, and 10% are available once every so often, as are a few minor planchet clips.

Past that your down to some laminations and strike throughs.

This Double Struck may cost as much or more then an SUV, but has much less routine maintence and will not depreciate thousands once driven off the lot. image

Secondly who needs an SUV at 10 mpg when you can own this along with a Schwinn and some knoby tires... see buying this could be good for your health! image

Do me a favor BECOKA run that past your wife and let me know wht the outcome is? image

Absolutely unbelievable. I like the fact that it is such a dramatic double strike. We have all seen the double strikes on other denominations that require the Hubble telescope to see. This one is amazing.

They left out an "O" -- as in "POOR" -- as in what you'll be after you buy the coin from them.

    I sure didn't, that's why I bought one that gets 27 mpg.

OK, now let's see a "double struck" $20 Lib. Who's going to do the Photoshop overlay?

As I recall you can find a few in the Heritage Archives.

A wild and wacky looking rotated D/S $10 Lib sold at auction in 83, the obverse looked like John Merick on a good day.

Consider – every gold planchet was inspected and weighed before striking. Then, every struck gold coin was inspected again and weighed again before leaving the coiner’s department.

Amazing that any gold errors escaped the sharp eyed lady adjustors.

My favorite gold error is my 1803/2 $5 struck from misaligned dies - the obverse is 15% off-center. It is incredible that it made it out of the early mint. That it survived with luster and original color is almost as incredible.

Regulated, I know this coin well as I have the auction link save to my favorites for a few years now... it's a great coin! image

Byers, that's for joining in on this thread and sharing the D/S $20's... any update on your Mint Error book release as I have 2 copies on pre-order at Amazon?

Broadstruck- it's in the final edit stage. And then the Publisher is having it printed all in color. There were a few delays- but hang in there. It's out of my hands. Zyrus Press is first class and publishes many coin books for the hobby.Thanks.

Byers, thanx for the update on the book as I was only questioning as Amazon pushed back the release date into May.

The same was done with Jay Cline's 4th SLQ edition.

Good for you Ahooka454 from my understanding this is to be a coffee-table type hardbound and with Byers mentioning the full color photography I would assume it will be on quality glossy pages?

While your waiting go surf the Mint Error News site as there's a wealth of information, over 20 PDF magazines, etc...

but be forwarned if you get hooked, Mint Errors are like Doritos you can't buy just one! image
