    Hmm...
    Bermuda triangle coins.
Was the shape of those shipwreck coins inspired by the legend ?

I linked this thread to the Darkside so that Newbiecollector and oldshep and others would see it.

I see oldshep already sailed in on his own.

Let's see what I've got uploaded at the moment. Hmm...

I just got into collecting ship coins but I already love it. I pick up one last night for under melt and its an ounce of silver. Cant beat that.
  • I like the theme and on some the great detail.

I am not a coin investor of course and do not care too much about the price unless it is crazy for bullion.

I just like the ship designs I find.............. Ask Oldshep......who corrupted him into getting into ship theme coin collecting

UDO, Where was that one made? That thing is amazing!

    Thanks guys image

Actually I don't know very much about it. image It was probably made in 1970 at the Hamburg mint to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Wapen von Hamburg, the depicted ship.
I bought this one some time ago from Ron Guth.

  • oldshepoldshep Posts: 3,240
Ahooka - The third one down is a French Naval Medical medal - I hope the lightsiders don't get upset with the posting of other country coins and medals but they are as beautiful as the US ones.
Here is the reverse of that same medal

I just made a nice addition to my Roman coin collection, but I'll brag about that somewhere else, 'cause it ain't got a ship.

At the same time, I purchased another coin to celebrate Newbiecollector's 10K giveaway. That's right- I'm giving it away! Newbiecollector and I went in "halfsies" on the price. He is also giving away another prize and farthing has pitched in yet ANOTHER prize. So there's a celebration goin' on over on the Darkside; come join if you like!

We are giving away THREE ship coins, including the ones below!

This one is hard to beat for historical context, it's silver, it's well over two thousand years old, and it has a ship on it.

Not only does it have a ship on it, but it was also struck under the authority of one of the participants in a famous naval battle: the Battle of Actium, in 31 BC.

In the Battle of Actium, Mark Antony and Cleopatra were defeated by Octavian, who later assumed the title "Augustus", and became the first Roman emperor. Talk about famous historical figures on all sides!

The coin will be coming from Rutten & Wieland in Switzerland.

It is a silver denarius of Mark Antony, with a galley on the reverse!

Additionally, Wayne himself will be giving away this lovely Red BU South Africa halfpenny!

And farthing will be giving away an 18th century British Conder token with a ship on it!
