It is not my roll, but I've bought from this seller on multiple occasions. Usually, I had no reason to suspect a problem, but on two recently-purchased rolls (1969-P and 1969-D Quarters), it appeared that they had been re-wrapped. Pictures to follow.

Oh Ok, If it was yours I was going to really give it some thought. I dont buy rolls from ebay. None ever caught my eye. Id like to see the pics you got though.
Don't get me wrong. I've bought from him multiple times, and usually there is no question. But these two both have very thin rolled ends. It's easy to see in the 2nd pic, although both of them are the same way.
Most old original rolls have ends that are almost the same size as each other. These don't.
Again, most of the rolls I've bought from this seller have been original.
I recently encountered a similar instance on a 1966 roll of Quarters that was clearly re-wrapped in the old-style orange wrapper, and the seller admitted that it had been re-wrapped by "his" dealer. Again, that seller had been pretty reliable in the past.
I've found never-opened OBW rolls of all stripes and flavors harder to find as the weeks go by.

Has anybody here ever, in all your years of this hobby ever bought an "original roll" off Ebay and ever found something that made the purchase exceptionally worthwhile? I'd really like to hear your big scores. And how many here have fallen for the old "unsearched roll" ploy and have come up empty? Can you admit you had $$$ in your eyes that maybe got the better of you?
Those look like some nice rolls. Im not a gambling man normally. Not really at all. I love roll hunting though. Anyone wanna share a source for rolls, feel free to PM me.

Actually, in my Morgan roll collecting, I've found several rolls that are obviously from the same bag and kept together. Some were obviously rewrapped and a few were not. I remember an 1882-O roll that I bought off the bay from a newbie that had 9 1882-o/s, 3 1882-o/o and the rest were all normal dies. Pretty good roll for $250. I have a perfectly matched two roll set of 1881-s PL morgans, all twenty from the same PL bag. So, as far as Morgan dollars go, you can still find some great roll deals. bob PS: I've found AU/BU rolls described as matched BU coins. Lot's of crap out there as well.

I have viewed this seller's auctions off and on for quite a few years. Many of his "original" rolls look like they were rolled yesterday, so I've always been suspicious. Maybe everything is above board, but it just seems unlikely that he would have so many rolls (not all, of course) that have the same neat wrappers without showing the worn frayed ridges on the ends one would expect from fifty or more years of existence. It is possible to purchase wrapping machines, acquire wrappers, doctor them and have rubber stamps made to duplicate any previous imprinting from any bank or time, and unfortunately there are people who would go to those extremes to get the premiums "original rolls" can bring. I can't say that he is doing this for sure, I'm only saying it is possible and over the years he has had, in my opinion, an inordinate number of extra clean looking rolls he represents as "original," and therefore I'm suspicious. Either that, or he's got one heck of a system for rooting out original rolls which look pristine.
The other thing which is suspicious to me is that for years there is one bidder (the one with over 1100 feedbacks) which kind of looks a bit like a shill bidder on many of the more expensive auctions--he's been doing this everytime I check for at least 5 or 6 years. This bidder wins some of these auctions and has in the past sold “original” “unopened” rolls of his own on eBay. Maybe there’s nothing wrong at all, but it just smells a little fishy.

Agreed, does not look like an original unopened roll.
Note the seller never said it was unopened.
This seller was slightly more than acceptable until about 5 years ago. Now he is very marginally acceptable. I used to buy from him when he had some decent rolls. His later offerings have deteriorated.
I read absolutely NONE of the description but common sense dictates that there is NO WAY that paper roll (wrapper) is 72 Years old. It would have disintegrated loooooooooooong ago.
I could've been convinced by the wrapper, but what do I know. The font looks 1930-ish.
I once got some circ rolls from the bank and noticed they had an old bank name on them, with the old pre-ZIP code postal code on them. (For example, "Minneapolis 16, Minnesota".) The rolls (well, the wrappers, anyway) were from a bank in Cleveland, Ohio, as I recall, though I was in North Carolina at the time.
Realizing that ZIP codes began sometime around the late-Eisenhower or early-Kennedy era, I began to salivate.
Yup, sure 'nuf... each roll was solid Wheaties, through and through! They were circulated coins, and not BUs, but that was a fun little lick, gettin' 'em for face value, from the bank.
My point is, if those circ rolls had been put away that long, why couldn't the one we're discussing have also been?

I couldn't buy rolls without immediately tearing them open, like some crazy Cookie Monster on caffeine.
Ditto for "unopened" proof and mint sets.

SELL stuff unsearched? Me? Never!
I'll often sell stuff unpicked for die varieties, since I don't give a hoot about varieties for the most part. But not being able to SEE the coins?
Couldn't do it.
lordmarcovan, I know exactly what you mean. A "cookie monster on caffeine" is just about the right description!! I bought what, about 30 rolls of the 1958-P Roosies, and another 35 rolls of the 1959-P Roosies from the same older gentleman. Then I did something dumb.
Almost every roll had toners, so I proceeded to open all the 1958-Ps, thinking that I would remove the end coins and put them into 2x2's to "preserve them" which I did. I glanced through a couple of the rolls, and finding them unremarkable, I just put them away with 48 coins in each roll.
Now, I am thinking that I screwed up. I should have left them intact until I was ready to look through them, but I was like a little kid in a candy shop. At least I stopped when I did. I made a contract with myself that I don't get to open any more rolls until I have time to look through the ones I already opened.
It's killin' me.
