I think that whether this was meant to be a joke or not, it has brought to light what all of us have probably thought all along. That some of these magnificent "finds" could be somewhat embellished or even entirely fabricated. What it comes down to is if you are a roll hunter (of which I am from time to time) you are doing it for your own gratification - that is the joy of discovery. I metal detect and the same thing applies there. People sometimes plant coins or other relics of value that they then "find". I feel that most people aren't lying and the enjoyment of discovery in a vacuum is somewhat less gratifying than sharing with fellow enthusiasts, whatever the endeavor. You have to take people at their word and things like this here can hurt the creditability of the real discoveries. We'll never know when someone pulls a '77 Indian cent out of a roll or a '55 doubled die out of the ground whether or not it's something to celebrate with them.
