New and back into collecting after 12 years.

Hello,

I am new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. My name is Jared Hendren and I use to collect coins back in 1996-1998 or so. At that time my main interest were the GSA Carson City Morgan dollars as I was born and lived my entire life in Nevada and have always had a fascination with Nevada's mining camps. I also had several slabbed U.S. gold coins. The funny thing is I don't remember why I sold all of them, it must have been important at the time.

Anyways I recently had some disposable imcome and decided to start coin collecting again. BOY, what happened to my $55 1882-1884-CC GSA dollars?

I don't know exactly what I would like to collect at this time, but I decided to start with a 20th century gold type set. So far I have a 1907 $20 No Motto Saint Gaudens NGC certified in MS61 and a 1909-D $5 Indian PCGS certified in MS61. Next on the list is a 1907 No Motto $10 Indian in MS60-61.

I joined Heritage, I like their "My Collection" feature as it allows me to keep track of my coins and what I have in them as well as their current market value. Anybody here buy coins from them?

I figured that once the gold type set is complete that I probably will start my Carson City Morgan collection over again.

Jared

Welcome to the boards!! Yes, I occasionally buy from Heritage...among others, including the BST here. Be careful of the "juice" (buyer's premium), though. And their shipping charges are outrageous!!

I noticed that they add a 15% buyers premium to your winning bid, is it possible to get a coin for a fair price from Heritage? If you bid the amount that the coin is worth and then add the 15% it is no longer a fair deal.

    Welcome!

It is possible to get a decent deal. You should just factor the buyer's premium into your bid, and bid accordingly. If the coin is worth X, then bid X-15%. Does that make sense?
