Okay, so may I place doctor behind my name now ? Check out my ASEs

On March 27, 2004 I placed these 2 ASEs in a white envelope with the plastic case open and the envelope touching the coin.

they were on a shelf in my "Florida" room..........no heat or AC.

I like the '87. The '86 has a ways to go image

Well, technically it should get slabbed as envelope toning has been accepted for a long time for older coins.

    nice look!

i have had silver in white envelopes for 40 years with nothing happening....(it's junk silver)

Though intentional, I wouldn't say it was doctoring. Nice results compared to mine in San Diego. They are taking forever.

This is whats always thrown me off about the at vs nt thing. I know when you bake, fry, batter, and or anything else a coin Dr. can do. But if all you did was store it in an envelope and it did this, how is this AT? Or would this be considered NT?

That's the work of chemicals (bleach in the white envelope) , humidity and heat all associated with the environment, over time.
That makes it CT/ED (chemically toned, environmentally damaged)
You don't get the coveted suffix, sorry.

It doesn't look that bad, either. image

Yeah I agree with "57loaded". I had a bunch of different silver in various type of holders, plastic, paper etc. nothing like that ever happened to mine. image

Congrats, they look nice. How much longer are you going to "cook" them or are they done.

    Definitely AT. (Accelerated Toning)
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    no heat or AC

Your really roughing it just to store your coins in 19th century living conditions?

I like em... there was a post auction buy on a toned ASE of sub four figures at HA.

A few more like these and I see a heat pump in your future on the cheap! image

  • Where's the mild spots?

or are they considered AD (artificially damaged) by the TPG's . I've never seen a milk spotted ASE that wasn't in a slab.

  • Well, if I didn't know better, I'd have something else to say. However, here in my room in Florida, no heat, no AC, I have had several SAE's in various wraps. Some in white paper envelopes, some in Kraft paper envelopes from the 70's, some in Taco Bell napkins. It has been about the same time as you claim in white paper envelopes. My coins have absolutely NO toning whatsoever. So, based upon that, I know your coins do not have any toning on them either. That's water color paint. I know because I used water color paint once in high school and I recognized the colors.

Very pretty coins. No, they are NOT AT, they are NT. Clearly. No argument.

I have. It's just that most ASE's that change hands are usually either in sealed tubes or slabs. The singles that change hands are a very, very, small percentage.

I agree with you. I just submitted a sealed box of 20th ASE's and not a single one came back in with milkspots. The 12 remaining ones that I had from my submission when the first came out, 11 out of 12 milk spotted. They were all stored right next to each other in my safe for the whole time.

    Makes one wonder.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

I love your coins. I recently found this on a shelf under some papers, and I didn't leave it there on purpose. I'd say it's been there for 1 1/2 - 2 years. The reverse is white.
Edited to add - yes I have milk.
