$25 AGE purchase ....umm, what do you do, if anything?
Good evening, everyone, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend...
Got a question for you all...I purchased 2 $25 PR69 PCGS graded AGE's from APMEX, and one has white (milk-like)spots all over the back side of it, and the other seems to have similar white spots on the front of it, along with some massive toning on the front. Yes, i understand, PR69 = bullion, but I paid these guys top dollar for these coins, they are the priciest out there for same grade, but I have heard they are the upmost diligent when it comes to being a square dealer...
Do I just accept the fact that these are what they are, spots and all? Or what would your take be on it? I would think if someone is spending $600 they would atleast warrant a look at what they are sending before hand...wish i had a scanner to post them...
maybe i just dont know what I am doing??

They charge more for the slabbed AGE's than they charge for the raw AGE's. For the premium they charge you should be able to expect a coin without problems.

Those don't sound like PCGS PR69. Do you have pics? This actually sounds like what the PCGS grade guarantee is for.
While APMEX may be selling these as bullion, many dealers do not allow returns on any PCGS slabbed coins (not just bullion) because buyers are supposed to deal with PCGS directly under the grade guarantee for problems like this.

If you don't know about the PCGS Grade Guarantee, you don't know what you're doing.
Read up on it. It's well worth your while.
But try contacting AMPEX first, it's always less hassle if the seller will take it back or exchange it.

Worst case is they would pay out the current pricing for that coin but if the dealer will take care of it then that's obviously the best route. I still would love to see a piture of an AGE with milk spots.

Nice young lady, Jenna answered, I stated that I had purchased 2 coins which I just received, and they were discolored.
Jenna asked for my order number which i gave. Than asked me to repeat why I was calling. I told her again that the coins were discolored. She asked me again, than said quizically both??? Yes.
Jenna went on to inform me these were graded coins. I agreed readily with her the fact that I knew these were PCGS PR69 graded coins, and that I was suprised they would send such coins out to me as they are discolored.
Jenna stated she can send me a pre-paid e-mail (I have no idea what she meant, maybe that she can send me a shipping label???) and they would refund my money.
I stated i would just like for them to exchange them after they get them back. She wouldnt tell me yes or no??? What is that about?? I asked one more time, stating, I would just like for APMEX to replace these coins after viewing what they sent me. She said that she did not know if they had any other suitable AGE's in stock???? She said this a couple times.
So anyway, I feel that:
1) you can take what we send you
2) If you don't want to accept what we send you, fine, send it back, gold is up $40 since you purchased, so we can just refund you.
3) We dont know what we have in stock, eventhough it is listed on our website quite clearly.
4) I fathom to guess a small purchase like mine means nothing to them, but to me is quite a large sum for me to spend on my hobby.
I'm not trying to lambast APMEX, especially on a forum, as reputation is everything, but, I don't feel at all that right about this.
I received 2 clearly discolored coins from them, and am giving them the opportunity to make it right.
(I am not a new customer, i have made a couple purchases from them in the same dollar amount with no problem the past 2 months)

If gold had dropped $100 and they told you they would refund your money would you be boo hooing right now? Give it a rest, get your money back and buy it elsewhere. You make it sound like this is your last chance to buy gold.

Um, griv, no, you are incorrect. This is not my last chance to buy gold. If I might say, that sounds quite idiotic and trollish.
My point is, very plainly, APMEX sold me some discolored coins, and I just wanted to say how they handled the situation.
And, no, I dont think they would be offering a refund if gold went down 100 dollars, or $50 dollars for that matter.
The answer from the young lady was pretty unclear, all I wanted to know was, will APMEX, or wont APMEX, send an exchange, thats all I wanted to know...thats all.

Yes, APMEX needs to address this IMHO. I tried in good faith via the telephone as everyone said, and everyone aske me to report back which is what I did. There was a poster here, a J. thomas that stated he was with APMEX as well that told me to call, that I would receive excellent service. the poster does not allow for a private message, or else I would have sent him one before posting again.

Agreed. I definitely will. I can buy the same coins on teletrade or the BST forum....probably for a little bit cheaper if nothing else. I was just shocked after paying what I thought is 'top dollar' for that grade, I would get these. thats all.
If APMEX has more of the same dates in stocck then they should offer to exchange yours. That is unless maybe they are all spotted? This might be why they said they didn't know if they had nay"suitable" AGE in stock.
That said, I agree, the phone receptionist didn't seem to be that knowledgeable either, and when I asked a question - she said that she wasn't sure if there was anyone there that could answer my question - that did make me think 'micky mouse'. (courteous, yet not really professional sounding - possibly a young family member or noob is what I gathered.)
However, they did exchange my coins with absolutely no problem or argument. I would and have dealt with them again.
While I don't know all the particulars, I know our policy. It sounds like Jana offered to e-mail you a postage paid label for you to affix to your package to cover the postage to return your items to us. Second, Jana would not offer to commit to a replacement or refund or anything until we see the coins. Once we see the coins, then we offer a solution, not before.
My suggestion would be to return the coins for us to look at. Once we have them, we will contact you with a resolution. It could be replacement for comparable coins, return for a refund, repurchase (due to an oversight in our quality control) or something else. The one thing I can tell you is we try to please as many customers as we can and we will try to please you as well. Before we can do that, we need to see the coins in question. Then we can offer a solution and not before.
