I don't regard this as the "media" as in the sense of the traditional mainstream media, this is coming from a well
    established hobby background.
  • Interesting....!!!

......and now that Robert Chambers is off the TV channels pawning off crap to the unsuspecting, maybe he can host one of these shows. Oh, and who made Iola, Wisconsin the "coin collecting capital of the world"?! Krause Publishing is there, but otherwise, big deal.

Well, it is just a self proclaimed title, nothing more. (they even have a sign on the outskirts of town with that proclamation) image
Over the years they have pumped out more different numismatic book titles than anyone else so on that basis the title is well earned.
  • it can only happen in Wisconsin - if you ever been to Iola, it's a small town out in the middle of nowhere and now the capitol of the coin collecting world - boy, who would figure?? - but this radio show sounds that it could be interesting - cant wait to call in and expound about the latest coin controversy - it's all about marketing, promotion and of course MONEY!!!!

Is this syndicated or only a local broadcast? No reference to call letters or availability. Cheers, RickO

Its a webcast from numismaticnews.net not an over the air radio program.

I suspect that if they are successful Coin World might get into the game as well.

it is a promotion thing to sell more books, plain and simple. by being the publisher of numismatic books, I don't see how they can claim a title like that; especially since it is little more than a one horse town with a small population. Crowning yourself with a title is nothing more than arrogance

The site in my sigline works best for cherrypickers but I can't wait for Live Radio dealing with coins.

Yup - I am pretty sure that 'Coin Radio' is one of the signs of the apocalypse.

Is it going to be a service for paying members or is it a free webcast?

Not to outdo Krause, I am looking into having my own video podcast - a numismatic talk-show (though not as flashy as what Krause will be putting together) as soon as I purchase a video camera with a hard drive (around tax rebate check time - if the wife doesn't stop me first image ). I have two possible names for it - The Mike Doran Show - and - Doran's Numismatic Nuthouse. Since I have video editing software and a YouTube account, I can really get creative.
DORAN COINS - On Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), & www.dorancoins.net - UPCOMING SHOWS (tentative dates)- 10/8/2023 - Fairfield, IL, 11/5/2023 - Urbana, IL., 12/3/2023 - Mattoon, IL.

I'd be interested in a podcast like this. I'd sync it to the iPod and listen to it in the car, assuming it has some entertainment value.

Not sure, if other things on their website are for subscribers only I would suspect this one will be as well.
  • It's free.

Lots of songs they could play. Pennies from Heaven, Penny Lover, Penny for a Thought, Penny Lane, Penny Seranade, Penny on the Flooor. Then once in a while to further irritate those that keep saying CENTS, they could play Giddy Up 409 where it says "Well I saved my PENNIES and I saved my dimes........"
