Poll: How would you rate the gold Bald Eagle Commems?

The sales of the mint's Bald Eagle Commemorative already are quite high. I'm wondering how you would rate the gold coins relative to other gold commems.
HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

Mine are real beauties.......very modern look, yet a classic design feel!!!!

I lucked out...great strikes and no marks or lustre breaks on the Unc!!!

Should be an interesting poll, 53BKid
  • I like these much better than most other $5 AU Commems.

My UNC is incredible, I can find no reason it would be anything other than a 70. My PR would probably only go 69.

Great set. I bought them all for my collection.

It actually isn't bad at all. The SF gold $5 is also nice too in UNC.
  • IMO, it has everything a going for it that makes a great commemorative. Great design, great theme, a great story and it's gold what more could you want. I also think the Unc looks great, and I like them better than the Proofs. The Bald Eagle commemoratives are a '5 star commemorative' and with 60% of the maximum mintage sold in a month, a guaranteed sellout.

I really like the obverse. I think they could have been more original on the reverse, as it looks too much like the Kennedy half reverse.

  • I voted 5 stars, but to be honest, it is also my first gold commem to purchase, so I don't have a lot to compare to. I do like them in hand though.

Most issues haven't come remptely close to selling out. The popularity of the proof between the mint selling it individually and as part of the 3 coin set should make this one of the more highly minted issues in years. Still it appears to be a collector favorite.

I bought one and will keep it in my collection but I'm sure it will never be worth more than gold value.
  • Good article on the Bald Eagle from NGC

Too high of a mintage to make it a great investment, but it should keep some premium due to the the subject matter. For some reason, the design just does not 'grab' me....

I really was inquiring about the coin's asthetic qualities.

It's a great design, just a little too pricy at the moment.

I only purchased the silver proof.... it is almost time to sell gold, not buy it. Cheers, RickO

I have to agree here. Just a bit too much for what it was, but I think it's a strong design compared to the other contemporaries.

To me, this coin is out of perspective. Lousy image of a regal bird. YUK. I voted one star.

I got my today. The mint had told me on Friday that my order would be shipped in 4 to 6 weeks and I got it today. (They shipped it on Friday) I just love the looks of the gold eagle. 5***** for my vote.
