Actually, my collection has been in transition from one specialty into two or three others. Assuming that I get fair value for the rest of my coins, this coin might be the keeper:
If you had asked me one year ago, the answer would have been different. Most likely, if you ask me one year from now, the answer will also be different.
Edit: If I had to sell my entire collection and could use the proceeds to buy one coin, the answer would also be quite a bit different.
I have this 1909 S $5 Gold Half Eagle that I bought raw on ebay a few years ago for $220. It graded AU50 at PCGS. For some strange reason, it's become my favorite of all the coins I have. It's not even that valueable.
<< <i>This is a good question and I think that once I got down to the last four or five pieces that I would be stuck. >>
I have to agree and I'm not sure if I could narrow it down for sure to just 1 - but I guess I like my 1773 Virginia Half Penny the best. It has the most history attached to it and I know many of my ancestors handled the coin at one time or another.
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.
It is a toss-up. My second barber half and my favorite (1912-S) and the coin I found when I was selling my collection that helped respark my interest enough to finish the set (1892-O). The 12-S only cost $85.00 so it would be no financial loss at all to keep it until I die.
or maybe the 1859-O seated Dollar I got just before it... or the 1895 $5 gold (my first gold piece)... or my 1914-D Lincoln (my first real key date)... or maybe... awwww heck..

There are two or three I would like to keep but this one would take priority till I can find a nicer one in the same grade.

If I could only keep 1 coin, it would be the reverse proof ASE.
