In My Opinion the silver clad wore off and that is the copper core of the coin

Looks as though it was found in an acidic environment such as in the ground near some leaves or it was found at the beach.

thought about trying to clean it but from what i gather that is a huge no no. its hard to tell it apart from a penny when they are side by side
thanks for any input folks.....it was something different that caught my eye and though i would ask some of you experts.....there are some very informed folks on this board.

Cleaning that coin will reduce its value from 10 cents to 9.999 cents. Go ahead and have fun with an experiment.

oh yeah.....maybe this was the one I swallowed and later recovered

it was in a jar of change that has been sitting for quite a while

Looks like a corroded (environmentally damaged) dime to me.
