Post your SBA or other "ugly" coin!

I'm still working on imaging my 7070 (or what I added to it so far!) and here is the SBA. I figure a lot of people think these are ugly so post your SBA OR any other "ugly" coin you would like to post.

  • I don't think I can stand to look at any more of these atrocious coins (can you even call that thing a coin?)

Why wouldn't you call it a coin? Because many of them didn't circulate ... like Morgans? Oh wait image

And you have a variant opinion which is well taken and understandable.
But since this is the only "oddball" of its kind ever found it must remain,
IMO, an ugly coin having only in its favor the fact of being unabtainable.

The Roman emperor Galba (68-69 AD) was a grouchy looking fella.

This bronze sestertius is the largest coin in my Roman Imperial collection, and probably the fourth most expensive. Galba's short reign makes him scarcer, coinwise, and to have a big, fat sestertius of his is great. It really rocked the sox off one of the dealers I showed it to at the last show I went to. Without the old porosity, this piece would have a four-figure pricetag.

So Galba may not be the handsomest devil out there, but this coin is one of my favorites.

The emperor Nerva (96-98 AD) is also featured with a scowling portrait on a lot of his coins.

He's not quite as scowly on my bronze As as I've seen him on other coins.

PS- I'm talking about ugly emperors, here. To me, these coins are beautiful. The apple-green patina on the Nerva As would horrify most collectors of Indian or Lincoln cents, but to a collector of ancients, that's actually a primo look.

Emmanuel de Rohan of Malta, whoever he was, was a distinctly ferrety looking individual, if his portrait runs true.

He looks a bit like he just took a sip of straight vinegar.

    (Again... ugly person, great coin.)
