Or maybe they feel they can't prove it? I dunno.

its also a crying shame to think they would destroy a babe ruth bat, ball or jersey to slap on card. destroying real memorabilia and producing cookie cutter crap.
I have 3 Adam Dunns' and 2 Magglio Ordonez If I have that many dupes from 4 or 5 boxes can you imagine how many shirts were used to make those cards???

<< <i>Cuz Brittney doesnt have any underpants for the "game used" cards! She wont give up any other clothes cuz she needs her own closet full for each of the psych hospitals within a 200 mile radius. >>
she do'nt wear pamty's
OK, suppose all GU cards are fake. Where does that leave you? With a pretty neat looking baseball card with a peice of material in/on it. Yeah, the Jersey is meaningless, but i think they have a nice look to most of them and lot of these cards are low numbered. So, lets compare that to refractors and other low numbered cards. I think that most GU cards look better than refractors (i know not all will agree) and in the end, you have a low numbered peice of cardboard with a peice of leather, nylon, wood etc, VS. a low numbered card with a nifty printing technology.
I know that was a hard to follow ramble. But, in the end, If all GU cards are fake then they are stil nice looking baseball cards that are worthless in the sense that every other baseball card is worthless. Neither have any intrinsic value. There is no difference between these cards, and any other set of cards that is collected because of its eye appeal.

ebay i.d. clydecoolidge - Lots of vintage stars and HOFers, raw, condition fully disclosed.
It's kind of like a hooker that tells you she loves you, all the while sleeping with hundreds of other guys and telling them the same thing.
<< <i>They are as legitimate as most autographs you see for sale >>
Are you saying that the cuts of older players or even the certified autos of currant players out of packs are not legitimate?

Actually Joe Orlando said yes in an article in the SMR a year or two ago. It seems that some cut autos pulled from packs were being sent to PSA for encapsulation. There they were discovered to be fake. Joe wrote a column to warn collectors that just because a company puts these onto "official" cards the autos may themselves be fake. I believe there was a 1/1 combo card with like Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Cy Young cuts where 1 or 2 of the players autos were deemed fake.

There have been many examples of this, yes. One that got talked about quite a bit on the Beckett boards was an Eddie Plank cut autograph that was, in fact, Ed Plank who played in the 1970s and is not a HOF'er like Eddie.

Most importantly......
Collect what you like, last time I checked we were all collectors here and that's all that matters. It's our (each individuals) hobby, and just because someone does something a different way doesn't mean you need to bash them. I could say a lot of stuff about you guys on here, but keep my mouth shut because it's what YOU want to collect, not what I want.
I also agree that destroying a legend's jersey, bat, etc. to put in a card is ridiculous. There are only so many Babe Ruth jerseys, so many Cy Young autographs, etc. out there, and cutting them up to put into a card is an insult to the memory of the game.

SP, 4 in 1 cuts
Most of the "vintage" era material is torn, tattered, cracked or stained and lacks eye appeal. These flaws are not apparent when a jersey or bat is cut into tiny swatches for a game used card. Based on the condition many people would not be interested in having (paying) or displaying such items in their collection.....and the materials might not even be recongizable as a jersey or bat because the item has not been preserved.
The damaged materials are obtained at a discount while pristine items demand a premium and it is not cost effective to purchase such items.

As for the modern players, I dont think there is any reason to believe any of them are ghost signatures or autopen. I love opening autos from packs.
As far as game used, I agree it sucks that the limited vintage stuff gets destroyed. As far as the modern players go, Im all for it!
<< <i>I don't know, but I'll tell you one thing, the morons who think it's a swell idea to cut up a game used jersey of Ruth, Mantle, etc., deserve a kick in the scrote!!! >>
totally
Anyone who rags on what anyone else collects, is a hippocritical idiot, because they collect cardboard, which 99% of america would find ludicrous. So stop complaining or worrying about what others collect and collect what you enjoy collecting.
PS - I collect it all

Reprint Autos
PSA/DNA cards

In one way I see it that way, back in those days the players were not issued 1/10th as many uniforms/bats or baseballs for the team as it is today .
A Gehrig Jersey would be an extremely rare piece , you would cut that up ?
At the same time doing so puts a little piece of this history into the hands that otherwise would never be able to afford one ,
{Of course you have to be lucky enough pull one } or still pay out the nose for just a little piece .
I believe it draws many people to their product though . . .
Is it real ?
Who the hell could prove it now ?
If they are saying it is and the price reflects it being so do we really need to investigate it any futher ?
