2006 Silver Eagle Anniversary Set?

What is happening with the 2006 Silver Eagle Anniversary Set? I was checking on ebay and there are only a few listed.

Supply may have finally dried up. Time for prices to escalate maybe. Who knows. Perhaps its the boycott. 250,000 reverse proofs for only perhaps half a million collectors. Time will tell.

eBay shows 191 auctions for the sets, the selling hasn't dried up yet. All my sets are spotless in So Cal.

It will be hard to sell this set at this price.

    70/70/70 PCGS First Strike.
  • I wonder how many of those 70's have started to spot. I have not had a 70 yet that you could not see a spot coming with a LED light. You would do better with a raw set and a new car!

Anyone know what the raw unopened sets are bringing?

What would really suck, is if they've spotted in the original packaging, and when you send them in, you get a bunch of 66 and 67's.

if i had any sealed boxes left i'd probably sell them rather then send off to grade...for some reason all the coins, MS, PR and RP can spot inside OGP capsules.....

the only reason to grade would be to hope to get a MS70 now, although a RP PR70 is not something to sneeze at.

a lot of hype with these sets last year and peaked about late May early June.

spotting killed the rise, but it was getting ridiculous.

i was one who got caught up in it.

sometimes reverse proof can be de-spoted with MS70 soak and a gentle q-tip if caught early and if it's on the mirror details. then rinsed in acetone. just be sure it's 100% air dry before putting back into the capsule.

I kept one 69/69/69 set. So far no spots. image

I am curious what it is going for also.

Can one ask PCGS NOT to slab the coins if they grade below 69/70?
Has anyone done this before? It seems like it would be less of a hassle
than having to crack open slabs.

I think you can request a minimum grade, but I believe if they don't meet this grade, you still pay for the grading.

Thanks. I wouldn't mind paying for the grading - so a minimum grade is the way to go.
