<< <i>I wish I could offer some help, but it sounds like that zero feedback bidder was just looking for a scam. It also sounds like Paypal will side with him. Has he been good about communicating with you? If he actually responds to e-mails then maybe he's legit, but it sure sounds like you're out $500 image >>

That was your error. Unfortunately, it will cost you. >>

Tell us again how USPS insurance will cover a package that everyone agrees was delivered. His only hope then would be to prove that a postal employee opened the box, swiped the coin and resealed it.

    OP here.
They found the coin! The buyer was an old, hard of hearing and limited seeing individual. I spoke with him and his son, and they both were very nice. Turns out that one of the sons opened the package for the father (they always open packaging for him, so that he doesn't cut himself,) and threw out the packaging that was wrapped around the coin with the slabbed coin, thinking that it was just wrapping paper, and that the coin was in the Mint box.
I thank all of you board members who chimed in for your help, and condolences. image
    All the best,

    PS
    I have learned the following.
    1. Weighing the package would help.
    2. Insurance would help ONLY if the package was not delivered or was damaged.
    3. You got to be a freak to video tape every package that you send image
    4. PayPal sucks for sellers.
    5. BBoard members can be rough at times

    edited to fix some typos
  • Well, let me say congrats! I am glad that worked out for you!

<< <i>also don't let newbies bid on items with value. >>

Exactly how do you prevent that from happening?

Russ I have respect for you and hope you do for others. To answer your question simple put it in your description that I the seller have the right to cancel any bids for any reasons.

And the issue in hand no one with less than 50 positive feedbacks need prior consent from me the seller before you are aloud to place a bid on my auction.

Ok, I realize I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but just exactly how might any of this scenario been PayPal's fault?...

I'm happy that the coin was found. As a result of this, it is important for everyone to review their shipping procedures and make any appropriate changes.

Good luck with that. Plenty of bidders on eBay don't read the descriptions, and plenty more just ignore them. That also does nothing to stop a snipe bid.

From now on I will leave instructions on how to open the package along with a diagram of the contents.....image

Something else I hoped the OP learned....when you securely wrap a coin, with either paper or bubble wrap, or anything that can be taken as padding, make sure to leave a note in the box saying exactly what was in the box and also label the wrapping image
Serious on that...I have almost thrown out a raw coin due to how it was wrapped and now try to be careful when I send...

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I guess I have been putting a packing slip folded up around coin -

either flip, or slab - that has my address, their address, and what it is

just in case my PAYPAL shipping address sheet somehow gets obliterated
