Toning has started but isn't rainbow image
I bought this a few years ago and, if I recall from the few notes I took, it had started the toning before I got it.....bought off ebay before I knew what to look for in sets (ie....cam/dcam/true rainbow toning, etc). Luckily, I didn't pay much for it image

  • Profitable to dip and send in the half and nickel?

I have no idea, Greg. I don't know the prices/series well enough on them.

Reverse is about the same....you are thinking dcam on them?
I know they, particularly the half, would have to be dipped...not so much for the toning as for the little uglies on them that look a little like haze.

If the reverses are the same, the nickel is a good one, as long as no hairlines. The Kennedy, woulda dcam'd 3 years ago, but now they are brutal on them, so with the breaks it would be a liner.

    Ok,

Here are pics of all 5......Morris has given me his thoughts, and I appreciate it. Anyone else?
Knowing that these are quick photos and that they are unedited, and that the set cost ~$10 or so (maybe a couple bucks more), should the set be kept intact or should it be cracked? If so, dipped and sent to PCGS? What kind of values would be expected from the "good ones"?

And, here I thought that's what I was asking...thanks for the extra input.

Glad I could confirm your thought. JMHO, of course, but I agree there is not any upside here.

  • Dont underestimate the ugliness of that Roosie. Leave 'em in there for awhile...could be some wild toners. I like the set, though I do agree, not worth cracking and slabbing YET, but in time...
  • The nickle has pits in the fields. PR66DCAM at most.

is that milk spotting on the half, bochiman?image

The Kennedy if dipped to remove the awful coloring and haze has potential but will only be worth a little more than the slabbing fee. My guess is it would go 66/67 DCAM.

It would make a nice Dansco coin after dipping. image

    Not sure about the others.

Let me cheer you up. This set is still sealed, but apparently someone at the mint had difficulty getting the half into the insert. I've owned this set for some time now, and took it from a sealed box of 100. image

In '68 (and, I believe into '69) the mint used a hammer and a block of wood to
get most of the nickels in. Some of the other coins are hard to get out sometimes
and maybe they shouldda used it on the half. image

Really a wood block? That does not sound very numismatic of them.image

Dude! We don't milkspot up here image

From what I saw on the numbers, and general consensus, unless miracle grading, it wouldn't be worth it. So, nothing will be done to the set...no crackout.
