I cannot believe this

Well this morning im searching Ebay stores for some PSA cards when i decide to take a break for a few and shoot some pool. I notice my 3 year old son hop into the computer chair as he asks if he can " play computer " . Sure son have a blast ( whatever keeps him from whining and crying is what im thinking ). Well not more than 2 minutes later i look over and he just bought daddy a 71 OPC Bobby Orr PSA 8 for $249

Holy chit i almost had a heart attack. I emailed the seller and explained and told him i'd be willing to pay for any fees to relist his card

Maybe i should've sent a pic of my little boy sitting at the computer lol

It was a matter of seconds that i sent the email after the card was purchased so it wasn't like days went by and then changed my mind.

I told the guy to check my feedback to see that i've never purchased a hockey card in my life.

Why not? Maybe if he hears from a few people here, that he would understand that it was truely a mistake, because most sellers wouldn't belive that, because its probably been said a million times, lol.

Hope everything works out for you! image

If worst comes to worst and the seller sticks to his guns, just live with it and list the card when you get it to recoup your $$.

Could be worse, your son could have bought you a card for a much higher cost! I'll bet you'll log off in the future...cheap lesson, really.

Maybe you could have Perk's Perkies send him an email. image

Yes thats always an alternative but im hoping it dosen't come to that

Im watching a card right now that i actually DO want to buy that ends in a day but if i have to pay for this other card i won't be buying the card i want

Too funny Dave! Next time, teach him to only hit the "buy it now" on Cowboy cards. That way when your wife complains about the credit card bill you can tell her "it was your son woman" ,I didn't do it image

If it truly was a 1971 OPC Bobby Orr #100 in PSA 8 (not Topps), your 3 year old is already quite the bargain hunter because according to VCP here are the last 3 results for that card in that grade:

    7/26/07.......$565.00
    7/11/07.......$473.77
    1/04/07.......$355.00

Now happily pay the man for his auction, and buy your son an ice cream cone.
  • Nick, i just checked again and it is a Topps card. ( sorry and i appreciate you doing the work to check prices ) . I was so upset about this and so uninterested in the card i thought it said OPC.

Like i said earlier the title description and the scan are of two different cards which is strange

    Here is the card

In that case VCP says that your son needs a good spanking because those average $70.00 image

Dave, just be thankful he didn't order you a "Russian Bride" again. The last time that happened your wife was pretty upset.

Apparently what he did was click on any card that was listed on the page ( my luck it would be a $ 249 card ) then when the page turned he clicked on the " blue " pay now button and then click on the confirm button which both are outlined or circled. He's had experience on our computer and thats what he does, click on things that are circled . Usually those sites are Noggin and Disney though not Ebay lol

Yes thats true and i should've mentioned that i did bid on that card. I was actually looking to buy a Gretzky RC at that time along with the other Rc's i've bought recently.

You can choose not to believe me if you want but i swear that is what happened today. If it comes down to it and i have to purchase the card i will. Of all the years i've bought on Ebay i have never retracted a bid or have never not payed for a card

Probably to validate to himself hitting a BIN that he regrets. If it were me, and I hit the BIN but changed my mind on it, I would just be honest with the seller and explain that I had a change of heart, maybe he offers to sell you the card at a better price.. Maybe you get a neg, maybe not. 1 negative feedback does not a bad ebayer make.

Also, I think I failed to mention that I hate children.

Whether this happened, didn't happen, may have happened, I don't care. I'm just positing my opinion, which is what you can expect when you throw something like this out for open discussion.

Whats funny is that how i explained what happened to me this morning is the truth and im starting to think that i should've made up a story that i regret buying the card instead of telling the truth.

Mudflap, im not sure if you have kids or not but you would be amazed at what kids are capable of doing sometimes.

  • you guys are forgetting the "infinte monkeys theorem". Surely cowboydad's son is capable of hitting a couple of boxes on a computer screen. Anyone who has a three year old and has watched them play a PC computer game must have seen evidence that makes this story plausible.

If it were me, I would still go for the "item not as described" exit strategy. I wouldn't use the infinite monkeys defense.

To me thats what so ironic. Im basically being called a liar for telling the truth , when i could've been dishonest and used the strategy you described . Maybe i should've done that

Could be that he was hoping, or maybe even knowing, that the seller was a board member, and would see the thread and take everything said as the truth.
  • Dave...I don't think you're being called a liar. There may be a skeptic or two but you would have to be an idiot to overpay for a card just to be able to post a humorous anecdote on this forum. Mudflap should observe some children at a pre-school at some point to see what they're capable of. I think he would be surprised. And, anyone who hates children, obviously never had any and is certainly not an authority on what they're capable of doing.

Cowboy dad, don't worry about it. I'm sure most people like me believe you're telling the truth and got a chuckle out of the story.
  • Guys, i understand any doubts but i swear on everything important to me that thats what happened this morning. I realize the society we live in is guilty until proven innocent but i know it's impossible to prove things like this.

Like i mentioned to another board member via PM, im just sorry that i yelled at my son like i did because it was not his fault it was mine for not being more careful and leaving that screen up on the " puter " as he calls it.

    I believe the story.

It is a VERY common explanation/excuse used by EBAY buyers.
I have no doubt that it is often true.
