Who snipped who? UPDATED with seller's response
I had a few snipes in for the playoffs last week....
I won 12 from one seller selling PCGS PR70DCAM recent coins...
Tonight, I was downloading all the supersize images (I always do this) and found that several of the reverses were duplicated....in other words, the seller had posted the real obverse, but had short cut it by using the same generic reverse for multible obverses. That doesn't seem right to me...
Here's the response I sent the seller (I have already paid, the seller states he has already mailed):
I am awaiting receipt of the coins I bought from you, and I know registered mail takes a while, so I'm not worried about that.
What I am worried about is this: You are using stock photos for the reverse of the coins...
I know this because I was high bidder in 12 of your actions ending Playoff Sunday. As a matter of course, I always download the high resolution pictures posted and save them.
Well, as I was saving the reverse images, I kept receiving error messages that this file had already been saved! Finally I figured it out...you are using stock pictures of the reverse with original pictures of the obverse!
I would respectfully submit to you that some people (myself included) will fell less than comfortable with this. After all, if you are posting a LARGE reverse, I would expect it to be the actual reverse I am receiving.
I look forward to receiving the coins, and hope the reverses were as outstanding as the REAL obverses.
Best Regards

Am I right to be uncomfortable that the seller didn't post the real reverses?

Are you sure he didn't use different pictures with the same names? I've done that before- just not with auctions that were running together.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

he probably is dumping all of his low end 70's on unsuspecting eBayers
there will be milk spots, scratches, and the slabs will be ugly
out the seller
or wait until they arrive and see what you get
<< <i>They are modern PF70DCAM coins so I would think that any difference would be trivial, at most. I might not have been happy had I been in your shoes, but I doubt I would have sent a message off regarding the issue, especially since I would not have inspected the coins in-hand yet. >>
Agree. Sending that e-mail serve no purpose other than to warn the seller that you might be a troublemaker (in his eyes). Upon seeing the coins, you may be OK with them, rendering the e-mail unnecessary.
Bill, I run a lot of auctions and it is a pain in the ass to take pictures of every coin. Plain and simple i am a one man show and people that buy pcgs slabs truely get the crem de la crem and you should not worry about the quality of the slabs. I will step out even further and say they will be 100% better than any older slabbed pcgs proofs or anything purchased on teletrade for the most part.
At the prices you bought them at i would be more than happy to refund your money if you do not like any of the coins. Ebay lets us do whatever we want now, basically and i just put stock photos up each week and it saves about 1 day and keeps my pictures files less cluttered. You try and do this operation i have going with original photos - that's about 200/week and over 10,000/year. i want to spend my time making the great coins and turning my investment around and keeping people in these coins at a low cost and keeping them happy. I do not aspire to be a photoshop! You seem to be the only one that has a problem with this as i endeavor to have tens of thousand of happy customers. Sorry if you do now like my pictures or how i use them to sell the coins but I am doing the very best I can to the tune of about 70 hours per week and believe me, if I can cut a corner here and there i will. Pictures are useless anyway. You can't really tell on a proof coin.
Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxxx

<< <i> BTW, wasn't Floridabill the one who bought the coins from the FDC guy and he promised a report? >>
Yep, I was the one, and yep, I did. I delayed payment waiting for negs to show up in his feedback, but none did. So I paid the $$$$ and should have the coins this weekend....I'll let you know then.

A 70 is a 70 is a 70! But not always and I donb;t really want to get into that argument.
You seller seems like a reasonable guy whose willing to issue a refund so I wouldn't worry about it at all.
What I would like to see though, are pics of the stuff you won from MTC!
The name is LEE!

Fortunately, PCGS can save the proofs (actually hopefully) but the BS coins usually end up with a downgrade.

Sounds like a bit of an overreaction.
