I am just telling you what a non-numismatist judge and jury are likely to rule, based on the law, where trade restrictions, however well intentioned to protect buyers, are almost always struck down.

If Superman could swoop down and throw all the crooked ebay sellers into a black hole, that would be great. Unfortunately we have to work within the legal system. When people think making rules and restrictions are the quick fix, one often ends up being sued by the "bad guys" and often losing. >>

Civil libertarianism is a strain of political thought that emphasizes the supremacy of individual rights and personal freedoms. Civil libertarianism is not a complete ideology; rather, it is merely a collection of views on the specific issues of civil liberties and civil rights. Because of this, a civil libertarian outlook is compatible with many other political philosophies, and civil libertarianism is found on both the right and left of modern politics.

The primary concern of the civil libertarian is the relationship of the government to the individual. The civil libertarian seeks, in theory, to restrict this relationship to an absolute minimum in which the state can function and provide basic services and securities without excessively interfering in the lives of its citizens. One key cause of civil libertarianism is upholding free speech. Specifically, civil libertarians oppose bans on pornography, hate speech, and obscenity. Although they may or may not personally condone behaviors associated with these issues, civil libertarians hold that the advantages of unfettered public discourse outweigh all disadvantages.

In the United States, libertarianism is claimed to be the philosophy advocated by Thomas Jefferson and several of the Founding Fathers, it often being bundled with American conservatism, because many conservatives aim to retain the ideas of the Founders (although many conservatives are not comfortable with libertarianism) >>



Let us not kid ourselves; the ACLU may have been a noble venture when it was started but it is anything but noble today. In my humble opinion, the ACLU is probably responsible for most of the moral decay in this Country. It is obvious that they don’t look out for everyone’s Civil Rights, you can’t have a Cross or a “moment of silence” in a public school, but you can have a “prayer rug” and “foot bath”. You can’t have a “nativity scene” on public grounds but you can have other symbols from different religions. Most Universities still have to have “quotas” even thou white males have to be in a minority by now.

Heck, there was even a case in CA where the ACLU fought for illegal aliens (undocumented workers) to get state aid and education. The poor residences of CA wonder why they are over taxed and the State is in the red. I thought the ACLU stood for American Civil Liberties Union, not the Foreign Civil Liberties Union.

Just to make this post coin related, how many times have the ACLU tried to get the motto of “IN GOD WE TRUST” removed from our coinage?

Again, anyone that donates time or money to a chapter of the ACLU needs to reconsider their decision.

while I certainly agree that the ACLU has taken things way too far, citing "sources" that are blogs of some guy in his mother's basement isn't exactly to be taken seriously. Little Green Footballs? c'mon

Bingo! while i'm not a fan of the ACLU, i am a fan of letting a person/group share their views. I find it funny that groups like 'stop the ACLU' tries to minimize and relegate the ACLU (and groups like it) to some sort of "fringe element", when in fact they are the real fringe group. Irony is a funny thing
