OT: I hate paypal

I got a notice Monday of this week stating my account was limited due to "unusual or suspicious activity"

I called and asked for an exact reason, and their exact reason is "unusual or suspicious activity" No one would go into more detail than that.

They asked me to provide a jillion things, so I complied to the best of my ability, sent them emails explaining what I could not provide, and I did this all Monday night, and they still won't get back to me.

Sounds like a phishing email to me... I get one every month or two. Certainly don't reply directly to it.

Well he said he called paypal. But I do get these all the time too. I'd at least chage my password.

    Nah,
It definitely wasn't a spoof unfortunately. My account is frozen at the moment. image

They called me once when I started to have a few larger transactions, they basically only wanted to know the nature of the business but I did not have to supply anything.

If they don't include your name (i.e. "Dear Paypal Customer" instead of "Dear [your name]"), it is a scam.

I think I get at least 5 of these "account limited" emails a day.

Bummer... but it looks like they are at least trying to look out for you though. (or covering themselves)

That is what confuses me. I've made a few transactions, all of them successful, and haven't done anything out of the ordinary. I find it odd that they will not explain to me what the unusual or suspicious activity is.

On a real busy weekend, I kept withdrawing $100 at a time back into checking, after about 4 of them same amount transactions, they froze me and did same thing.....took about 4 days to clear it up. Now I do it $100, $101, $102 etc.....

Have you sold a PS3, Wii, or anything along those lines? I sold three PS3's last year for a few friends who stood in line for 3 days to get one and they suspended my account. They had it tied up for about two weeks. I couldn't print labels, I couldn't withdraw money, it was a nightmare. I would call what they did hijacking my account. It was completely unfounded. All the buyers paid through PayPal, I printed the labels through PayPal, and they all left postive feedback. PayPal still would not unfreeze my account until they personally talked to each buyer. And around the Holidays, that was not practical.

    GOOD LUCK

Haven't sold anything like a video game system.

The only thing I've figured out from all of this is that I will never ever accept paypal again for payments when they have the ability to freeze your account with thousands of dollars in it and then not even explain why. (It wasn't a buyer complaint or anything)

They are clearing huge amounts of money , millions of transaction, thru ten year old technology, just teeming with fraud attempts- like ants to a picnic, you would think they can allot the human resources to customer service for cases like yours, but the beast has grown so large so fast that crud like this happens all the time and guys like you suffer. Hope you can get it resolved and take your business to their competition..... oh, that's right, there isn't any.

I've posted my very negative experience with PP in the past.
I've stayed completely away from them and e-bay for the
utter ruthlessness they project for similar incidents. I think
they target, exploit, and victimize a lot of innocent folk.
You have to get real tough with them!

Are you positive that you called "PayPal?" Some of the phishing attempts are very sophisticated with 800 tele #'s. making you believe you are dealing with PayPal, when in actuality your dealing with scammers...

It sounds legit (they did same thing to Legend if people remember...and a few others).
If the account hadn't been active in a while, or was doing small things, then did large transaction out of the blue, that could trigger their alarms.

Afterall, that is exactly what happens when an account is hijacked and people complain those accounts aren't shut down quickly.....so, their alarms get tripped, they ask for info, and no people complain....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
