What would you pay for a SBA set signed by Frank Gasparro?

Just purchased a complete set of SBA's that was Signed by the US Mints own Frank Gasparro who is the designer of these coins for $71.

    I have seen one or two other items with this guys signiture attached and it was listed very high. So is it the coins you dislike?

    People do not think too highly of the obverse coin design. I happen to like the coin and own some myself. When I first joined the collector's club, I used to send in many to get graded. Made many, MANY MS66s. Sold all but one of each for my set. I do not own an 81S in 6 though.

    Congrats on your purchase. Sounds like a nice collection. If you can, please post a picture. I'd like to see it.

    Don't have quick access to these at this time for posting. I also have a hand written letter of authenticity that came with theses coins. Mr. Gaspparo said that the last surviving heir of hers said to make her uglier than what he did as she wasn't that pretty but he just could'nt do it. I have only recently started collecting about a year ago and was happy to get what I think is a part of history as Mr. Gaspparo is no longer with us..

    I shudder to think of how SBA must have looked if her family thought the portrait on the coin was too flattering. It used to be our ugliest coin until the business strike presidentials came out.

    If it makes you happy then right on, congrats! Collect what puts a fmile on your face. In this hobby $71 is a fmall price to pay to do that.

    KY, I'm wondering what you paid for the signed SBA set?? I like the aesthetics of the coin, the smooth textured look of SBA's profile that goes unnoticed by the untrained eye. Are you around?

    I read that according to Gasparro, SBA looked OK in her younger days. But since her grandkids only remembered her as a grandma, that is the picture they wanted on the coin. Thus, an ugly coin was designed.

    No interest here in the SBA's. So I would only pay face value for them, then spend them on a pizza, beer, and gas with whatever was left over.

    I should have read to the end of your post. I think you got a good deal for $71, especially if you received the 79S or 81S type 2s. But in either case, I'd pay that for the set. Do you want to sell it?
